Which class do you prefer?

^Topic^ (No poll button heh) I like teh cleric. He has nice weaps. Ppl think his mace is shit, but the mace does a fair amount of damage, with some range. His Serpent Staff is effective, for both range and melee combat. The 3rd weapon is a fragger. Then he has the badass WrathVerge.

Morrowind, eh? But I keep getting blue screens while loading it. Must be loading the packs or the save games. I stopped playing it to prevent further damage to my PC. Alas, it was an awesome game.

I don't know what to answer. Firstly it is offtopic, secondly I never met such problems myself while playing it.

Which class do you like in Hexen?
Sun, 23 Jul 2006 18:38:50

Crimson Wizard

It's hard to say. No, really, I dunno. I can play with any, and every has its advantages. I think it is always interesting to learn how to successfuly play with various classes... until there are too many of them, ofcourse.

Firebrand

I like playing as a fighter, it's strong as hell and I finished the game in my first play with a fighter, heh!
Sun, 23 Jul 2006 18:44:46

Crimson Wizard

Me too I also tried with Mage, but it was much later and I couldn't make myself repeat everything once more, so I stopped after a half of storyline. But when I thought: what was a reason why I had chosen a Fighter? And I supposed that it is because I seeked for an easier way to win, and that's all.

I like all three classes, I played Hexen through with all of them many times. And yes, the Cleric's mace might be the worst weapon in the game, but I still like it a lot, for the visuals - it's the only weapon that gives you the satisfaction of seeing yourself smash in ettin faces. Also, it has a slightly greater range than the fighter's fists, meaning if you are mobile you can even easier beat up everybody without taking a single hit. p.s. I was able to play through Morrowind completely on Win2K, if you used that OS or suXPenis then maybe you didn't have all the latest patches. Morrowind was more of a beta when coming out, I played it two years after the initial release and by then there were a million patches for it, making it much less buggy.

Hm, couldn't be the problem. I have the latest patches for it, with the expansion packs that came along with the gold edition. It only blue screened when it was loading the program and the save games. I loaded a lot of plug in files, so it could be the BSOD problem. This happend 2 times. Damn, I don't think it likes my GeForceFX. It works fine in my GeForce4 MX.

Maybe playing as the mage in a Hexen megawad perhaps?

The 4th Class

Back to the original topic, I'd say my favourite character is the mage. All of his weapons are long-range, which means you don't have to get close and dirty with the tough monsters when your mana (and health) gets low. That, and he's got one of only two hitscan weapons in the game. (His is the sapphire wand, the other is the firestorm) As for Morrowind, that game is by far the best game I have ever played on XBOX. I haven't played it on PC though, but I just loved the fluidity of the plot's progression and the vast landscapes and the dungeons to loot. Of course, beautiful graphics is a bonus. It's a shame my XBOX doesn't work anymore, but hell, that's typical for a Micro$oft product, eh?

What's the construction set? A random scenery generator? A mod editor?

Err...? Well, my version of the game has TES Construction Set included. It is a full game editor. It creates "esp" files that can be loaded with general morrowind data file.

Heh, mine too.

For single player, I have no preference, but multiplayer deathmatch, I prefer fighter because his quietus sword owns all the slow people (mage) and fighter can out run the ghosts and bloodscourge fireballs, given the map is a huge area. (Bright Crucible). I did randclass, and I beat my brother using the fighter without having to die. I did not use icon of the defender either. For coop, I prefer cleric, then seconded would be mage, then lastly is fighter. I think life is more important than mana which is more important than armor. This decision only applies if the mystic ambit incant does that radius thing (affecting other players around you). Does it do that radius thing? That way I can give life to my partner if he happens to be so dead. (If I'm cleric)

Ichor

I haven't had much of a chance to play coop, but I know that it is a radius effect. However, I think the effect depends on everyone's class instead of the class of the user. If a fighter uses it, it still gives life to the cleric and mana to the mage. Not totally sure about it, though.

Wrong.

[quote="RambOrc":16ljp380]Wrong. Heh, out of all the items in Hexen, the Mystic Ambit Incant is the one I know the least about.

LOL, I know only because I read about it in the manual and I still remember it.

Actually, that's not true, I now remember having played coop a couple of times and having received bonuses from other players.

Is there a Hexen game manual (book)?
Wed, 26 Jul 2006 07:02:32

Yeah, it comes with the game CD in a box.

Damn, I think my dad bought the jewel case. I only have the game with the CD and CD case. And I lost my Death Kings of the Dark Citadel CD too, but still have CD case of it.

If I'm not mistaken, DeathKings is now open-source, so you can probably find a zip file for it online. If not, just buy a used copy from eBay. As for the Hexen manual, there are tons of walkthroughs online for you to check out. Or is it a technical problem you seek answers for?

O rly? Anyway, it's a commercial product by Raven Software. It is released on GPL.
If not, just buy a used copy from eBay.
Bah, I'm better off finding it again.

Well you can purchase Hexen on Amazon as well, so I'm still not completely convinced.
Thu, 27 Jul 2006 18:51:46

Oops, I meant to say it was not released on GPL.
Thu, 27 Jul 2006 23:56:55

They only released the source code, but not the artwork into the public domain. Meaning if you want to play the game, you still have to buy it.

Well the fighter is really good but sometimes i get kind of bored with him, getting up and smashing everyone in the face and the attacks aren't as interesting as the other classes (And in Korax Mod he makes the game far to easy ) The Cleric, Proberly the one i favour most because he's a combination of Fighter and Mage, not to strong and not to weak The Mage, Well if your talking about him in pure hexen then, You've got to be careful most of the time and keep shooting at enemies for a while but in korax mod he's much better using only a bit of mana and with all the new cool spells

For anybody who thinks the fighter is easy in KMOD, don't play KMOD 2.x, try KMOD 1.0 or 1.1 on the highest skill level and see how easy it is. I tested all three classes thoroughly in KMOD 1.x and I found that while the cleric was about same difficult as in the original Hexen and the mage two skill levels easier, the fighter was two skill levels more difficult (i.e. on the 3rd of 5 skill levels, which you could call standard, it was about as difficult as playing the original Hexen at the highest difficulty setting).
