As far as I know you cannot make mods based on Duke3D/ShadowWarrior. (And you cannot use Dooomsday with Vavoom.) As for other games, Hexen seem to fit your plans more, in my opinion, because he already has character selection so it will be easier to edit it. By the way, I like your idea about climbing the walls. When I first tried to edit Hexen using Vavoom have the similar idea, but I never tried to realise it.

Quake's the easiest IMO, it's also the most extensive even from stock. Because of the greatness of Quake and QuakeC, Vavoom exists. LOOK AT THIS KIND OF ABUSE YOU CAN DO IN QUAKEC

Actually, you could make what you said with any of them (Doomsday/Vavoom for Doom, Heretic, Hexen or even for Strife ), then which one to choose? Well, that depends on your skills and how you want to implement it , I think Vavoom is the easiest one to add new things to the engine without having to modify all the executable, also Doomsday has it's DLL game system (which I personally don't like, since it's a lot harder to use), with Doomsday you could make things look better than with other ports, but you'll need to make models for it and other stuff. If you want to just work on 2d, you can choose Vavoom.

I never knew Vavoom can work with Quake too.

what I meant is, Vavoom is the closest thing to Quake you can get for the Doom engines.
