Man, I don't like you anymore, you don't dig Nirvana!!! J/K Now seriously, I never thought about that. But if you want to know, I sure don't like POP music! Take Cristina Aguilera for example: She was a little girl that appeared fresh out from some girls band when it was fashion. Now, she a "black" blond singer, hanging out with all those black rapers, just because it the new wave of fashion (again)! Just too empty minded. If you care to know, my davourite bands are Nirvana, and an english one called Bush. I hear lots of music in the radio, but mostly like about one or two musics from different bands...

I hardly ever listen to any music as it tends to distract me from map making (so does TV to an extent, but it's more entertaining sometimes).

Strange how long your list is and it still doesn't contain a single band I'd listen to (well OK maybe Depeche Mode once in a month or so). BTW some of the bands on your list are definitely pop. OK here a completely different list with nothing that could be considered pop in any way I guess (I'm listing only well-known international bands that are still around, this is but a small part of all I listen to): Judas Priest Destruction Sodom Megadeth Running Wild Helloween Iron Maiden Flotsam and Jetsam Manowar Mot?rhead p.s. I stopped watching TV over a decade ago, I just can't stand the bloody thing...

Of bands you listed I only know Manowar. I'd say it's fair - not bad, but doesn't attract me. You seem to have exactly the same attitude towards TV... :D

Which means you're anything but a heavy metal fan, since the most important names of the genre are all in there.

Hey, c'mon. You can't make the mistake to compare Mainstream with POPular music. Many bands begin underground, fresh and artistic, and see themselves in the middle of a mass of fans, which automaticly turns them in "mainstream" bands. This doesn't mean they are of the POPular style of music/thinking.

I guess my definition of pop is different from yours. The way I know pop is actually a double-definition including itself: pop music as the big category is one of the 3 categories into which all music can be put: pop, classic and folk music. Within this pop music category, there are again subcategories, one of which is pop (the old system had only 2 subcategories, pop and rock - nowadays there are a lot of other categories in there). After this definition, techno would be pop music on both levels, whereas hard rock would be pop music only on the first level.

Now I'm even more confused. As for music I listen to: Iron Maiden Mot?rhead Black Sabbath Metallica NIN Drowning Pool SOAD I could go on but I've got a load of questions on Cosine Rule to do for tomorrow, and I don't want to stay up to long if i can help it.
This Hexen player, believe it or not, listens to mostly Bluegrass, and Southern Rock, with a little bit of Classical. I don't have any CD's in my CD-ROM drive when I'm playing jHexen or KMod. To me, the original music is perfect. Listening to non-classical music when playing Hexen messes up the atmosphere in my book.

Uhm Hexen's original music is not classical.
Then what genre DOES it fit into? It's actually a mixture of styles from rock through techno to underground (and some more). I guess you thought it to be classical music because of the instruments used.

IMO, when playing Hexen, it doesn't matter what genre a song is, as long as it fits into the theme of the map. As far as pop goes, some pop is okay. Duran Duran and The Alan Parsons Project are not bad artists, but Michael Jackson and Justin Timerlake... BTW If I remember from last year's music class, Classical Music (1750 - c 1820 (?)) was when the music became less ornate or homophonic than the previous Baroque period (Baroque music was a bit technical - polyphonic). Unlike Baroque Music, which made the listener think, Classical Music intended solely to please the listener. A typical Classical symphony movement followed a very strict order of three stages in which events in the piece occur (Exposition - the composer exposes his ideas and themes Development - the composer develops tension and excitement Recapitulation - basically a repeat of the first stage). Then near the end of the piece there would be either a cadence (a two-chord ending), or a coda (a much more versatile and expandable ending). Classical music is pretty disciplined.

I ordered this CD several months ago. I think it is an awesome pioneer into technical metal, so progressive that it is harmful to the human brain. Metallica Mega Death Nirvana Rob Zombie(actually just Dragula) Lords Of Acid Nine Inch Nails Guns N` Roses Jimi Hendrix The Hollies - And a lot more that I`m not going to list to save time(includes a lot of music from games, some classical, some random midis, and what not) What I hate and cannot stand: Rap/RnB/Hip Hop Classic Country(mah wieft left meh, mah dooug dayed, nd mah truck broke.) Any music from Indonasia Anything that sounds like Indonasian music or has a woman`s voice humming(think the begining in the Lord Of The Rings movie). Much more, but too lazy to list. Seems just about everyone the same music in general, or at least is tied in to through the 7 degrees of Kevin Bacon effect. This isn`t suprising me like it normally would, and the reason it`s not suprising me is because we`re all at a forum that has to do with an ancient unliked medival FPS called Hexen I remember hearing the results of a study on the radio a few years ago. A survey was done on what music do males/females listen too. The results showed that almost all males liked and still like music they were listening too 5-20 years ago, while the females nearly forgot what music they used to listen too. Pretty interesting stuff, and considering how many guys would kill for a $100 limited edition figurine from Transformers/A Mark Hamil autographed light saber replica- It seems as though this attachment logic can applied to more then just music. Wonder how many of us are gonna like Hexen 5 years from now :p

LOL I've started playing Hexen back in 1995 when it came out - and I started to develop for it nearly exactly 5 years later, in 2000 (and the way things go, our big RPG project might be released another 5 days after that, in 2005). p.s. interesting survey results

Hahahaha! I bought Hexen when I still lived in Brazil, and I didn't even have a computer at the time - I just wanted to secure my copy for the future. I brought it to Portugal and would only play it almost a year later. So, I'm pretty sure I will still like Hexen in 5 years from now, specially with all the cool and much needed new features we are developing for it.
Scooter Hooray, someone else likes them! (and isn't afraid to admit it!) They're great to play Hexen with, too. (and indeed any fast-paced FPS) Others in my list include: Prodigy, Sash!, Roni Size, Orbital, Oxide & Neutrino, Ian Van Dahl, Sven Vath, DJ Zinc, Ferry Corsten, Iron Maiden and Green Day. I always thought Hexen's (and Heretic's) music to be of a classical/orchestral nature, as fitting with the fantasy theme. But I suppose you could call them demo-style or general fantasy music as well.
