W_GetNumForName bug again

I've read about this bug elsewhere on this site but had the impression it only affected transitioning from the first level; and could be "bypassed" by using the warp command. Well, I'm getting this problem at the end of each level. I have no idea how much silver my character(s) have accumulated but apparently I'll never get to spend it since I must warp to each successive level. Has this issue been addressed in a patch, or new version? (I have the most recent in the download area.)

This error must come followed from a certain lump name, if it does, could you please post the entrie error message? This is to know if the problem is KMod related or maybe it's your IWAD file (hexen.wad).

This appeared in a message window on an otherwise blank screen just after I entered the teleport at the end of the Hypostyle. Clicking OK to this window dumped me back to the desktop.

Hmm, i always got clus1msg after end of first hub... so, i assume clus2msg is after second hub... i had an old hexen.wad... you need to update it. Took me a while to figure out how to update with the patcher on ravenfiles <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? --> .

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ravenfiles.com/file.php?id=16">http://www.ravenfiles.com/file.php?id=16</a><!-- m --> it's hard to install... you extract the contents of the exe file by running it, and extract the files to your hexen directory... then click install... well, okay, i just suck at technology, so i had a hard time with it.

Wow that site is still up and running in its original form, even with the rest of RGN having been overhauled twice in the meantime... it's still my original code and I guess still the original fileset from 2003...

I believe that's just the patch I've downloaded last autumn to be able to build JHexen mod <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Well, I d/l'd the patch and it turns out I didn't need it, my CD has the patch built in. Did a new install and ran the patch and actually had the wad file dated a month earlier than my old install. Either way, when I get to the end of a level and go through (go into, actually) the teleporter I still get CTD with the error message. Any other ideas or am I just SOL?

Hexen.wad must be of 14 march 1996 I believe. Jist in case check it with any WAD editor/viewer if it has CLUS2MSG lump.

I believe that is the date on the wad (not at my home computer now) the date on the previous intstall was April '96. I'll see what I can find with the editor (I believe I have one somewhere, downloaded in the dim past but I never discard anything).

Try looking for XWE, it's a good and easy to use editor for WAD files <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.

I come here tonight, hat in hand, ready to accept my humiliation and ridicule. They say the simplest solutions are the most often overlooked - I had upgraded my wad but failed to copy it to the korax directory (installed as a subdirectory of Hexen). Once that directory had the new wad, things worked fine. As for editors, the only ones found in a cursory search of my archives (dusty boxes in the hall closet) were several on an old H!Zone CD. Tried the easiest one (simply called WadEditor) but, while it displayed maps and graphics nicely, couldn't find any reference to CLUS2MSG or lumps with it. A moot point now.

Haha! It's as you say, the simplest solution is always overlooked, it always happens <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> .
