W_CacheLumpNum crash

Recently Korax has been crashing with monotonous regularity, on saved games or on a fresh game, always with the same message: W_CacheLumpNum: 18336>-numlumps The number is occasionally slightly different, though always 18xxx. Currently can't seem to play longer than 15-20 minutes before a crash. What can I do to alleviate this?

Addendum: This seems more prevalent when there are several reivers (? those fireball tossing critters who emerge from graves) on screen, particularly if I've just killed one. And the crash will *always* occur if I kill one and, after he falls to the ground, there appears to be a pile of scrap metal where he fell.

The problem could be somehow related to when the engine loads a sprite lump or something, we'll check it out.

With scrap metal you mean some kind of strange sprite that doesn't look right?

It seems to be a jumbled pile of silver-grey metal on the ground, possibly made of fragments of the fighters gauntlets. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I keep getting distracted by other commitments. Sounds like I cocked up somewhere probably with either fire death sprites or damage skin sprites. Is this in KMod2.8 or the KMod3 beta? I'll try and have a look as quickly as possible. I sure hope there is an easy way of finding the 18336th lump otherwise I'm going to be counting for ages <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> .

It seems it's beyond the number of lumps in the game (hence the text in the error message), maybe that's why it show sprite 0 (the fighter's gauntlets).

We have had this problem in the past, it's a WAD problem (either the original Hexen wad or one of the KMOD wads).

Don't you hate "other commitments"? My employer expects me to be present five days a week ...every week! Thoroughly unreasonable, IMO. I'm using Kmod2.8; though I see from subsequent posts that this is apparently a known bug.
