Statement from The 4th Class

The 4th Class

I've given it a great deal of thought and reconsideration, but I'm afraid I've realized that I no longer wish to be a member of Korax' Heritage. The main reason I'm leaving is that, in complete open honesty, this project has been dying away ever since I joined. I wish I could avoid saying it that bluntly, but I don't see this project going anywhere ever. Sure, we've done lots of "touch-ups" and new codes and textures here and there, but overall this project is too disorganized. Nothing realistically significant has been accomplished since perhaps the first KA Beta, and even then that was late. After another year, we could only go so far as a 2nd KA Beta. Even if we did finish all our projects, they would be over a decade overdue. All the Hexen fans have left and moved on to other things - and quite organically so, seeing how we've had since 1999 to release the goliath project, but it's always just been betas and beta updates for almost 10 years now. We only have about 3 fans coming to our forum, and the majority of KH members have all stopped contact with us. If you ask me, I think our biggest flaw was having so many projects with so little manpower. We should have kept it small and stuck with the one mod, either SE or KA or whatever. Yes, even though the new blueprint for these projects is bigger, more grandiose than ever, the smaller, original plans could have been persued and released as scheduled, back in 2002. Then we could have updated them as we went along, adding the fancy coding we now have. Another reason for my leaving, maybe I'm pushing it by saying this, but I've always felt like my efforts were underappreciated here. Not that I want to wear silk slippers and white robes, but I've seen very little of my work ever being applied first-hand - it was always just stored in KDev for future things, but these future things would never come. As I've been maturing my craft, I started feeling more and more like a burden to this team. Over the last few years I felt like the 2nd-rate member, the one who just comes here to flood bandwidth and not contribute anything significant enough to the project, and whose opinions were inferior to those of the programmers. I've decided, however, to leave all my work I've offered to you guys available on KDev - deleting them with my account would have been mean and unwarranted. Feel free to use whatever you want, just give me due credit. If you want my personal advice, I recommend you open up this Internal Developer's Forum to the public. Honestly, there's nothing that private that needs to be withheld from them, and they could see your progress as you go along, maybe even motivating them to help out. And for a change, it'll prove to them that you're actually working on something. Ivan and Fransisco, I will still record those announcement sounds for you like I promised! I won't just abandon my work cold turkey. You'll get them hopefully next week, and I'll PM you the links when they're done. Alright, I think I've said everything I needed to say. So good luck to the three of you (Ivan, Fransisco, and Zoltan), it looks like you're the only ones left. IMO you've got all the music you need, now I'll just finish up the announcements, and afterword I'll never bother you again. Take care everybody, thanks for the memories Lucas Marincak

It's too bad to hear that you are leaving 4th, you are a good friend and I really think you've got a bad impression of some things in your post, like that your efforts are unapreciatted, it's never been like that, yes, sometimes we had differences in opinions regarding our projects, but it's never been as you said. IMO, you are giving too much importance to the KH projects, it's nothing but a hobby for me, completely educational in means of programming and resource managing, and mapping, 2d art, etc. it's something fun to do, nothing else. I've got a job, I study a career at the university, I've got friends, family, other responsabilities (and actually we all do ), which are as important as the work we do on KH. Sure, we have lost fans, we have lost activity in the forums, maybe some of this because I tend to talk too well of our progress and I tend to promise things I don't always can keep , I'm sorry for this, but it hasn't been easy to keep track of everything for the last few months, I wish I could make you change your opinion, but I know it's not possible, you'll always remain a KH member for the rest of us, I really hope you reconsider, and I ask the remaining members to please take in consideration some of these comments, some of them are true, some aren't, but we need to change a bit the way we are working with some things, I know we'll complete these projects, but we need to decide which are worth to continue, and which aren't, as 4th says, we've got a lot of things, not all is needed, we are almost complete with KA 1.0, let's release it and focus on KRPG, once we've got a new version of it, let's again return to KA and fix bugs, add new stuff release and back to KRPG, that's what I propose. @Lucas: Take care man, you are a good guy! Hope to still see you around in our forums , keep in touch with us, heh! .

Good luck and thanks for all the work you did for this project. Your music will be used in all our upcoming releases. As for the "fans", they are not who we make this game for - let's face it, we develop this primarily for our own benefit/satisfaction, at least I do. If I wanted to work on a game mod that is widely known on the web and garners lots of press and fans, I'd work with one of the latest generation games that came out in 2007, not in 1996. I'd also choose some more popular genre instead of medieval fantasy. But I do what I do because it's fun to do it, and not having a notable fanbase also has advantages: we can do what we want to do, not what is expected of us. I don't know about others, but for me it was great to have thought up a game from scratch (KA) and see it being created, to turn out exactly as I imagined it.

Crimson Wizard

Umm, RambOrc, I was rather confused by that statement about making the game for ourselves... I am pretty bored to make things for my own satisfaction, I am looking to get satisfaction from making something for others.

What I meant is that I don't care if only a few people I know will play this game as long as I have fun making it. I won't be pissed or disappointed if we don't get thousands of fans posting on the forums about they having played it and stuff.
