SE RPG system discussion

Since we're starting work on SE soon it's time to agree upon the RPG system used in this one. I'd say the discussion is open until about mid-February and then the implementation of the system starts and no basic changes will be possible after that. So let everyone fire away...

I kind of like the different types of arrows idea that I mentioned in the Introducing Korax SE section. You could have stores where you can buy these things (along with better bows and other weapons). Here's a few different kinds: Arrows - Your basic, everyday arrow Enchanted Arrows - Arrows with magic on them, enabling them to do more damage Fire Arrows - Fire damage Ice Arrows - Ice damage Thunder Arrows - Lightning damage (like the Arc of Death) Poisonous Arrows - Poison cloud type damage Time Arrows - Slows enemies down Dark Arrows - Blinds enemies Holy Arrows - More (maybe twice) damage to undead Drain Arrows - Saps enemies health away and gives it to you (vise-versa for undead) Panic Arrows - Causes fear in enemies Mute Arrows - Silences magic users Fervor Arrows - Exploding arrows (be careful with these) Doom Arrows - Randomly kills any minor enemy Piercing Arrows - Cuts through enemies

Remi, is it codeable?

My proposition to the RPG system is to include a critical hit / miss feature. Critical Hit : Doubles Damage Critical Miss: No Damage and longer delay to fire/hit again And also I think we could partially implement the RPG system (AD&D Rules 3rd Edition) from BG.

Just an idea - how about Dungeon Master 2 - like shopping?

You mean you go to the table on the left to shop and the table on the right to sell something (or vice versa, don't remember), then keep turning the wheel until the product is there you want to buy, or do I remember wrong? I still have that game so I could check it. To have a better discussion base, here the way it currently works in the Korax engine (implemented nearly a year ago BTW): Buy: you go to a table/niche/shelf/whatever which has the stuff you want to buy, press the use key and you buy one if you've got enough money (it's a linedef that allows you to buy a certain item for a certain price). Sell: you go to the shopkeeper, press the use key on his linedef, choose something from your inventory, press the key that would activate it, and it's sold if the shopkeeper wants it (at least I think it's this way, gotta ask Camper how exactly it works).

Yes, it works like that, you choose a product, place a money on the table and shopkeeper decides wether he will sell it by that price or not. This posibility to buy something by a lower price is what I mean.

I think there should be a talking system, or at least we should be able to hear someone's words (when we get near someone, or press the use button). It's the greatest feature about rpg's: you can talk to people, expect reactions and interact. Of course this isn't for SE, as you explained me before, but at least the system above should be there. Another thing: creative missions (or at least something different sometimes). Like rescuing some princess, killing a dangerouns Bull-djinn which threats all the city... Something like that. Maybe we could hire (or convince) a hero who would follow us and help us. I could make the sprites (maybe we could use Conan's , but maybe it isn't exactly for SE... Anyway, just some thoughts. Decent ppl pls disregard this post... Since SE will be called "Korax' Heritage: Scattered Evil" and The Serpent Power will be most probably called "Korax' Heritage II: The Serpent Power", I guess we might make a trilogy, with the 3rd part based on your latest proposition. Introducing "Korax' Heritage III: Conan and the Bull-djinn" (sorry, couldn't resist )
