As you might've noticed, since last week or so the Korax forums are faster once again. Along with Vavoom, they are now on a commercial hosting plan instead of SourceForge. There are also some other new things regarding this move: - free hosting for Korax team members' active Heretic/Hexen projects (like Ichor's CG3, Dark Realms etc) on subdomains of heretichexen.com (freshly registered) - domain heretichexen.com which will incorporate news from Vavoom, KH and the above mentioned sites, also the blog and forums. there might also be some info from the old RGN info pages (like Heretic walkthrough etc) - hosting doesn't apply to any outsiders, this is not a charity stuff like RGN hosting was - everything on and about this mini-network is Heretic/Hexen only (and does NOT include the so-called heretic2 and hexen2 which haven't got much more than the name in common with the originals) - there is enough place and bandwidth to also put all download files into the webspace (3 GB/25 GB), finally putting all sites, forums and downloads, even koraxdev together at one place (not yet migrated) - once again full-featured hosting, i.e. things like korax-heritage.com mail mailboxes are no prob here is how you can take part of these changes: - if you have a project, just ask Janis to give you a subdomain on heretichexen.com along with an FTP account to put your shit up - request a mailbox on either korax-heritage.com or heretichexen.com (or both), PM or mail Janis - post here if you have a suggestion what app to use for news/portal, for blogs etc - post here if you want to do the design of heretichexen.com or help others do it - scratch your head, whoop and smile like an idiot (so that Moose can do something too <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> j/k) and later on: - post news on the main page - post to your blog regularly - actually do some work on the project(s) you're involved in And here is about the poll contained in this topic: The Vavoom forums will stay the way they are, but for the Korax forums the decision haven't been made yet whether it should also stay the way it is or be expanded (including subforums for the other projects like CG3 and for plain vanilla Heretic and Hexen) and moved to heretichexen.com. I personally would go with the second, IMO it'd be more optimal to have a central forum for the Heretic/Hexen sites and KH forums being a part of it.

I support the secong option regarding the forums, because that way we would make the community grow faster and help increase post counts rapidly, lol <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> Also, I think it's a good chance to be seen by more people. BTW, If you need any help about building the site (mostly graphics) drop me a line or post about it on the KDev forums, I'll be happy to help (and I have some time in my hands now) <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> .

In that case, could we try wrapping up Korax Arena into a releasable state with the current development state? Please start a new topic with a list of where we are currently (it's mostly you who's been working on it lately, so you should have best overview), we can discuss there what to do to get 0.3 out.

This seems like a very good idea, and I support the move. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> As for the hosting, though, I'll have to give this one a lot of thought. I'm satisfied with Freewebs hosting, even though it has its limitations (the most persistent one being a one-dimensional boundary between no HTML and complete HTML). Would it be okay if I gave the heretichexen hosting a temporary test? If I like it better than Freewebs, then I'd switch over for good.

I'm going with the latter, it'd probably be a good idea to merge with the other forums, it means less accounts for one thing and also we where probably slightly more active when we where part of the RGN. And Lucas if your in need of help with moving to HereticHexen.com for DR, I'm sure either myself, Rambo or Janis will be more than happy to help you. I'll even see if I can get your forum stuff off my forums and into your new one.

Thanks, Moose. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> If the DR forums were moved to HereticHexen, would they still be private, or could anybody register and post? I think it would be best if they had a combination of both, like the KH forums. It's just that I have a good deal with Freewebs and I don't want to screw it over on impulse. But OTOH, I'd love to have an official sponsor and a host with virtually no obligations (like in Freewebs, you must have the ad banner on your site if you haven't paid for any premium services.). I'm assuming I'd have to use something like Netscape to create my pages (did that on the old old gAOL site). But that's fine, Netscape works well for me, unless you can recommend something else.

Moose

You can have a combination of both, Rambo or Janis'll be able to sort that out for you when they set up the forums. As to the site, you could make it in what ever you like, I can't make any recomendations really as I use PHPDesigner2005 which is really just a text editor, and I'm not sure if thats what you want. Just shout if you need a hand.

Sounds good. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> I've already started planning what the site pages will be layed out as, which will probably be the same as the Freewebs one now.

Just as a note, I use Macromedia Dreamweaver MX to make my site, it's like using a text editor with a visual preview of the page, it has some nice functions on it, but I don't really have much knowledge using them <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->. I'm actually working on a new image for the site, a not so simple and empty one and with a few details here and there, heh! It's coming along really nicely <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.

For a starter, what about a HereticHexen.com logo? Once that's done, I can replace the KH logo on these forums and then move it up to the new domain (before that, it'd look kinda strange with the KH logo on it).
Wed, 20 Jul 2005 20:34:13

Firebrand

Sure! Do you have something in mind for it? I mean, it has to blend with the site theme so it looks good, I don't know what kind of theme will the site have, but if you give me an idea of it I can be able to start working on it <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.

You mean the Korax forums theme as theme for Mambo as well?

If you talk about the heretichexen.com site design, talk to Janis to work out the details, I'm just a team member as far as the website is concerned.

OK, I made the logo in two different formats, first the logo in GIF format, here: [img:11vj1ikc]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/Firebrand/logo.gif[/img:11vj1ikc] Then the logo in PNG format, here: [img:11vj1ikc]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/Firebrand/logo.png[/img:11vj1ikc] I think it looks really good, heh! Tell me what you guys think about it <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->, maybe it's a bit big, but I wanted it to be attractive.

RambOrc

I don't know... when I look at it, I don't associate it with Heretic/Hexen... I think it'd be better to use the original title graphics and put those into a game, no matter that both have a different font. And/or I'd like to see some figures on the logo, like the KH logo on the top left of this page. I know the KH logo took quite some time to create, but even now after years when I look at it I find it exciting and cool and it gives me the kind of feeling the Hexen world does. Actually, looking at that KH logo, wouldn't it be possible to put on the Heretic player character as well (left right or center behind the fighter)? I still have the original highres file with layers, meaning the background and the title can be swapped/modified without touching the three figures, and placing the Heretic guy anywhere on the pic should pose no probs neither. The title could be something like "heretic heXen .com", the first two parts being the original title graphics of the games and the third part some custom design that suits the rest. The background could be pretty much anything as long as it is not too detailed. What do you think?
Thu, 21 Jul 2005 16:27:08

Firebrand

Sure, if you upload the KH logo with layers I can work on it as you say <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/ramborc/koraxlogo_official.png">http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev ... ficial.png</a><!-- m --> Looking at it I found out that the Mage character is standing completely free, meaning it can even be moved to the right to let the Heretic character take the place in there. Also, separating the Fighter from the Cleric should be relatively easy too and updating the Cleric's cape should be possible too. Having all three (four) characters independet would have the advantage that they could be moved around free on the canvas, put in front of or behind each other. This would be very well usable later on too for Korax arena which is planned to have a similar guys picture but with even more characters on it. Before you start Firebrand, just to make sure, we're talking about the original Heretic player model, not about that ladies' man buttscratcher from Heretic II. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> Regarding the burning letters title, I don't have the app any more that I used to make them, but for using it as KA logo title only an N need to be made as graphics. If you run into any prob with the layers or processing them back again, just tell me and I'll export any layer for you in 24bit uncompressed format and will put them back into the master file, no prob.

Yep, I'll sent you an image from the Heretic character by mail right now, so you can see if you like how it ended up (I made it using the original heretic sprites).
Sat, 23 Jul 2005 20:36:58

RambOrc

I like the colors and the overall concept, but I strongly think the character needs to be redrawn from scratch like the other three. The original box cover art should be significant help on that, I'm trying to locate it right now for you.

This far only this: [img:2jis3qln]http://images.ravengames.com/basenav/header_heretic.jpg[/img:2jis3qln] [img:2jis3qln]http://www.raven-games.com/images/herboxt.jpg[/img:2jis3qln] Can't remember the name of that well-known fantasy artist guy who did the Heretic cover art, if I could recall his name it would be easier to find the pic. He also did the DOOM 2 cover art and the original Hexen cover art (which was discarded in favor of another one).

OK I finally remembered his name: Brom. It seems on his website he threw out all the old stuff, so I tried over Google and found a link to the image: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.linkmesh.com/images/Brom/16.jpg">http://www.linkmesh.com/images/Brom/16.jpg</a><!-- m --> Currently it's "bandwidth exceeded" so if anyone clicks on the link and finds the pic available, pls save it at once, upload it to kdev and post the link here.

Hmm, I'll try to get that pic later or tomorrow, I'll get to start working on the new image too <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->. I already found a hi-res version of the Heretic and Hexen titlepic fonts somewhere on the net, I'll use those to make the font and complete the nice look <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->.

So what's up with heretichexen.com? I'd gladly use the blog once it's up and running. Also, I think it'd be time for a KA section on korax-heritage.com, besides the trailer I also can upload a bunch of screenshots I took over time for exactly this purpose.

I second the suggestion, also if you want I can create the KA section on MODDB too <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->. I ain't, Janis is the webmaster and you and Mago signalized several times you'd like to take part in a korax-heritage.com redesign/update so I thought you might want to take part in heretichexen.com too.
