New textures and flats (beta testing)

I've been working a lot on texturing (well, actually more trying to learn it than really working), and with some luck and some nice tutorials, I've been able to successfuly translate real life photos to repeatable tiles, and from then on it was a matter of a lot of clone brush use, and tweaking with Hue, density and contrast values, aswell as free use of noise and blur to make them look more like Hexen. I'm still working on most of these, but I thought I could let you guys know what I'm doing, and how are they turning out. Here are some samples (taken inside the Church), of textures and flats that have no link with each other: [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor1.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor2.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor3.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floo4.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor6.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor7.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor8.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor9.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor10.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] [img:2xgd09b0]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/mago/Doombuilder/floor11.jpg[/img:2xgd09b0] PS: As I said, most have problems with contrast, and even light level. While they all work as textures graphics, some just won't feel too natural, so a lot of beta testing should be done, in different kinds of architecture, light level, and spaces (high walls, open areas, slopes, etc..). It's just a quick look anyway. Pics 7,8,9 and 10 are attempts of palace detailed floors. Still needs work though.

Oh and by the way, Merry Christmas to all of you guys, hope you get a lot of neat presents and spend quality time with yours! And if you are wondering why I'm here instead of enjoying the day - Yes, I don't have a life...

Well I'll not say Merry Christmas yet as I'll probably be on here at some point tomorrow. Yes I don't have a life either.

LOL The truth is that I don't actually share much of the Christmas feeling, as Im not a religious guy - still I can't get away from my girlfriend... I'll have to dinner in with her family, which is little embarasing... If it were for me, I would just be home and work on my things.

Are you having problems dealing with it, or it was just a repost error? :p

My Pcs doing some very odd things, it was submiting my reply but wouldn't do anything like loading the page, it seemed as if the internet wasn't responding so I fad a fiddle with my router then with my network settings, hence the tripple post. I've just reset my PC and it seems to be running ok, although I had to reset my BIOS. very odd.

BTW, those are almost all done from real, free photos, so no originality or copyright issues there.

The 4th Class

I really liked those pics, Mago. Your mapping is vastly improving, and I can vouch for that first-hand: I have never even attempted 3D floors. I too wish everybody in the Korax' Heritage Team a truly Merry Christmas, and may 2005 be very productive for KH and all of our individual lives. I already spent quality time with my family (we played Scrabble), and tomorrow I'm visiting my grandparents, so I may not be here on Christmas. I'm giving each of my sisters one of my CDs I don't listen to anymore, and some chocolate-coated pretzels for my parents. O yes and tomorrow our dog is going to get a very special treat: leftover turkey.

Well it's now Chritmas morning, and I'm waiting for breakfast. So thourght I'd just pop on here and wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Enjoy the day. Oh and Mago I appologise for not saying anything about your textures yesterday, they do look amazing, they'll help add a little individuality to KH.

Hey people! Merry Christmas to you all! that this new year that comes can be very cool and productive for your personal projects and for KH's projects, heh! Hope that you spend some quality time with those you love and that you get all those cool things you wanted for Christmas . I'm actually getting up from yesterday (I slept at 4:00 AM, heh!) Now it's 10:20 AM and I feel good, I ate a lot yesterday, and some familiars came here, we were talking and playing Game Cube, it was nice , today I have woke up and cofigured my laptop again to surf the net, I won't have much time to work today, but tomorrow I'll surely finish the Witchaven Guy for real, heh! BTW, Really nice textures Mago, they really fit with the original Hexen textures and blend in a nice way, it would be nice you could explain to me how to make them, so I can start doing some tests myself , it doesn't seems to be complicated at all.

Actually any one can do them, the real danger isn't making it fit with each other, but actually tweaking it in a way it will look good and apropriate among other origninal textures AND the way things are presented visually on a Doom engine (know how the sector light levels change the texture, how they look from a certain distance, etc). Do you still have Paint Shop Pro? If so check this page and download the pluggin, then let me know for further explanation: http://hem.passagen.se/grafoman/nuts/se ... mless.html The textures themselves are based on free photos from those textures sites. See this one for samples, but there are more: http://textures.forrest.cz/ The best way to do it is to select only a part of the whole image and work from there - you can often produce two or more textures from the same pic, and this way the final result won't be the very same thing as the original pic. When you pic the pluggin up, I'll elaborate more.
