New hunter class in KA

Firebrand

The hunter is a Were-Panther warrior that comes from the Mazaera's steamy jungles in Thyrion, he has entered the tournament to show that his race is stronger than the humans and to prove himself a skilled warrior. He has a big amount of speed that is compensated by his power, also he has some deadly weapons like his claws, that are his main attack in wild, he can manage a sword for close combat and a bow for long range attacks, he also knows how to make poisonous arrows and darts to use in battle, it is rumored that he can handle some secret powers of darkness with his mere hands, this dark spell can make the enemy's speed reduce a bit for some time letting him have an advantage. You can discuss/suggest anything you want regarding weapons, stats, etc. I have made a sketch of it, please bear with my experience with the pencil, I'm not very good at it, but I made an effort to make it as good as I could <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> . The 4th Class

These are only my assumptions based on the drawing: - Very fast (faster than the fighter?) - Light armour (no helm, shoulders exposed) - Light magic (he has a superb magic spell, but yet it's only rumoured to be real, so maybe it can be activated randomly - without the user's direct command?) - All-around balanced warrior (Equal combination of melee and long-ranged weapons.) I think it could work, that's why I voted YES for the Hunter. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> What are his statistics for the speed/armour/magic/strength bar graph at the start screen?

Even though it's a good and documently (sp) supported idea, I have doubts on how well would this new player fit into KA world, considering it's a world heavily based on Hexen\Heretic world alone. If it was possible, the best thing to clear the issue would be making the entire new character and then play test it, to feel both the visual and the gaming experience, BUT that isn't near possible, the time and frustation would be considerably negative if the character wouldn't be accepted. This character reminds me of a player character in Golden Axe 3 for Genesis\Mega Drive console system, which is also a man-panther, and was kool to play for sure. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> As a good point, I could point that it's crucial for KA to have totally new characters, and being optional ones, there's almost nothing negative about having a "stranger" in there, because we may choose it or not. But the negative aspect is that it may not have the right feeling for the game, and thus not be adopted by the players, but the bad part is that we could only know this by actually releasing the new sprite, and that takes a LOT of work, as we both know. I'm very inclined to say yes, but to take a position of discussion, I opted for "I don't know".

I've also submitted "I don't know" because there are both pros and cons... The biggest pro is that all 6 characters this far are human males (OK, the Heretic is an elven male, what a big difference especially that you don't see his face), and adding at least one human female and one "monster" character to the mix might be a good idea. The biggest con against this or any further class is that 6 classes mean already 50+ weapons, which is very difficult to balance even without adding further classes (especially that even their stats differ, not only their weapons).

I would like him to be fast (maybe more than the fighter) and to be balanced in melee/ranged attacks, about the light armor, as I recall KA has the same armor balance for all the classes into the game so I think there won't be any changes (please correct me if I'm wrong), we could make the spell work like some kind of special attack maybe... About the character not fitting into the game, there's a chance that this could happen, but of course, we are speaking of a selectable character, so those players who don't like the new class can choose from the other classes, so I don't think that would be problem at all, also, we need to work on the character feel and playability for KA, I also think that the game needs to have some totally new characters, that's why I felt right for making this. I think our only choice would be to make it and wait for user feedback on it, if there's anything we can make to change it we can try it (remember that anything can be changed between releases), I think there are going to be a lot of opinions on this into the team and outside of it, so all we can do is to try it, as there's no other way to know if it will work or not and I think it would be good to give it a try. About the balance, I also think it is going to be difficult to do, but we still have time to work on it, and as I have mentioned, we still need a lot of feedback on the project from the user, so I repeat, the only option we have is to try to implement this or any other things that we decide to implement, because there won't be another way to "test" and decide if it works or not. We can still discuss this and come to another option maybe.

What I prefer is that we first balance the existing 6 classes and concentrate on getting the rest of KA done - I haven't yet said but by the way things look I think in the end the first KA public release will be actually 1.0, meaning the whole concept is changing. If you look at the concept document for KA, you'll see for 0.1 there weren't any more than the original 3 Hexen characters planned, with only 3-4 weapons each. Instead of that, we already have 2 extra characters with the full 10 weapons for each 5 class, and some more enhancements. Also, while 0.1 in the concept called only for deathmatch and 1-2 maps, by the time KA is released there will be most probably way more maps and if Camper can sort it out, also team deathmatch, if things go really well than also CTF. Also, soccer might make it into the first release, making this a fully working mod by the time the public sees it (yes this time the team was a lot faster than I anticipated, quite a change compared to SE, LOL). Meaning the second KA public release will be most probably 1.1, introducing maybe some new gameplay modes, new maps, new player characters etc. I suggest we postpone any characters above the initial 6 until the first public release is pre-tested and then released. Of course if you feel you have the time and energy to do this warrior, I have no probs with you making it, just talk to Camper whether it wouldn't set him back in his other coding work for KA to add the new class.

Adding new classes is a piece of cake, as long as I have a definition how the new weapons are supposed to work (meele and standard range weapons excluded) I also voted yes, because I very like this idea. The only class i'm missing now, is the assassin (only female chara). But with backstab damage, darkness spell and lots of poisoned weapons, not the crappy hexen2 weaponry

I would rather have some the other classes well-balanced. It's always possible to give more powers to already existing ones, and keep them balanced at the same time.

Due to the fact that the new Vavoom netcode is to be expected towards the end of the year, KA will come out with first classes and only 3 game modes at first, and the first updates will include mostly new maps, graphics and the two or three additional player classes (Witchaven guy, Hunter from Firebrand, and the Assassin/Thief Camper proposed). Once the better netcode is at hand, we can proceed with adding the new game modes. But I agree with you on one thing, first the current 5 classes should be better balanced. This is the reason I didn't want to release KA yet, some of the weapons are plain shit and both the classes between each other and the weapons of a player class compared to each other are unbalanced. That's why the weapon table is in one of the topic, I already suggested a bunch of changes to it once which Camper implemented, but a lot more changes are needed, and some of the weapons should be put into another slot or replaced by something else.
