need ideas for cave map

I'm working on a cave like map, and my main idea was to create something like an underground temple that is getting destroyed by the cave, since there were some earthquakes here and there, the temple got destroyed...some parts of it are still standing, but most of the structure is down. Now, the things is that I made the start not so far away from the temple, and i'd been adding some lava and such. I made some parts of the temple, but then I run out of ideas. I made the map from scrath and the same thing happened. Now...I'm going to start the map from scrath. I already have an idea of what I'm going to do, but it might be too small...so I want you to tell me what would you like to see in it. LevelKiller

I think best is you send me the part you've finished, I upload it to our common dir and everyone can take a look at it and give you suggestions easier this way.

I actually deleted those maps. When I work on the same map from scratch, I want all the old stuff to be gone, so I won't go back and look at the maps and get the same mistakes and I don't get confused neither.

Hey there, If you're re-doing the map from scratch, then there's a number of things you might want to include. Winding tunnels are an absolute must, without too many open areas, and the monsters will have to be positioned carefully. I never liked the cave levels in Hexen where the monsters were scattered all over the shop. The ruined temple is a class idea, and I can just imagine how you'd have to fight your way through, backtracking when the roof has caved in, finding holes in the floor (IF we get the engine to handel it [img]images/smiles/icon_wink.gif[/img] ) to jump through between the various levels... What you might want to include is a Thief-style underground forest scene, with greenery and such growing in a very "magical" kind of way. It would add a very surreal, very authentic touch to a game that heavily involves magic. Anyway, that's just a thought. Yours, -V?ices

Jumping through the floor to get down a level is not a problem with the Hexen engine already in its original state, already Heretic had those "teleports w/o sparkle" things... if someone could get the town map to work, check out the inn and the library and you'll see this trick at work, allowing you to walk corridors that are theoretically above another corridor. The same can be done to holes in the floors, though it might not look 100% convincing for a critic eye. As for the Thief stuff, I never played that game and others maybe neither so best would be if you could upload some screenshots into the "inspiration" folder (preferably 40-70% quality JPEGs or a ZIP file [img]images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]).
