Need a freelancer / contributor?

Crimson Wizard

I was creating my own project based on Vavoom Hexen some time ago (november 2005 - january 2006). It was called "Unholy Heritage" and implemented some RPG elements (character stats, level of experience etc) as well as numerous additional features. You may take a look at my project here: http://www.shadowweaver.narod.ru/unheir/unheir.htm However, later I understood that I won't be able to efficiently work on my project, because I was the only creator and had not much time. On the other hand, I still have passion for working with Vavoom. On Vavoom forum Firebrand once told me, that your leader, RambOrc, may offer me to join your project(s) if he'd seen mine. (No doubt Firebrand liked what I had created ) In that time I declined due some reasons, lack of time mostly. But now I suddenly feel interest. I presume, I won't get anything special working alone on my project, thus it can be a lost of time actually. But if I join your team, I'll have a chance to make a good contribution to it. Bla bla bla bla bla... Saying roughly and directly: do you, people, need a freelancer-contributer? I may work as a programmer/map designer. I hope you do not need any r?sum?s, don't you? You may look at my mod's source to know what a programmer I am, heh, if any . It is available for download from my project's web-page mentioned above. As for maps design - I love to do it, although may be I lack experience. You may look for my maps, but the best of my creations, I suppose, is here: http://shadowweaver.narod.ru/unheir/dow ... h_1011.zip (especially look for map 02) and here are screenshots from it: http://www.shadowweaver.narod.ru/unheir/shots2.htm It is uncompleted, but in my opinion, I finally got a "sense" of good map design for Vavoom. If you wish, you may take any part of my project for using in yours: program parts, monster ideas, maps etc, even if you refuse me to join you. (Just because of mine althruistic nature )

Firebrand

[quote="Crimson Wizard":1dgean4y]No doubt Firebrand liked what I had created Yes, I was impressed with your work, I've got specially impressed in the new menu additions and the RPG elements you managed to get to work on the engine in a very little amount of time , I must admit that I couldn't hve done the RPG experience system or anything similar to it in such a short amount of time (I prefer the game logic for monsters and player). Your maps were good too (and you can get practice along the way, which is a good thing ), also, you seem to have some very good ideas for enemies/weapons and stats for the player (which could get discussed with the ones we already have).

Hehe, the only resum? you need as far as I'm concerned is the will and interest for Hexen's engine, and it's capacity of delivering even today, and with our help , a truely enjoyable fantasy game. I barely know you but I understand you have quite a deep knowledge in Vavoom, it's code and the complexities of map making. This is fulcral to us, as experts in those areas are so few, and interest is even smaller. I'm also aware of your limitations, its good to see you are considering the project as worthy of your free time - every body here has their problems and I think we all share the feeling that we do all we can with what we have, and on our rithym, so noone will demand anything from anyone. Mappers are a must, specially mappers that are not specialized such as yourself - a lot of imagening (sp?) will be necessary for our ultimate goal, The Serpent Power. Its awesome to see true interest for the project!

[quote="Crimson Wizard":kgdxjmfa]As for maps design - I love to do it, although may be I lack experience. Hehe, I wouldn't worry so much. I totally lacked experience when I wanted to join. My first map was totally pathetic, but then I spent time on the second and tried to use the most Vavoom features I could do at the time (very little) and was accepted..

[quote="Firebrand":o3e3hovm]I've got specially impressed in the new menu additions and the RPG elements you managed to get to work on the engine in a very little amount of time Well, since I am really a C++ programmer (not "professional" yet, though), I usually do not have a question "what to write", only "where to place my code". I mean, I only needed to undestand, how the whole things work. [quote="RambOrc":o3e3hovm]Well let's say welcome to the team. Fine, then come two general questions: 1) What are you currently doing? I am a bit confused about your activities, it seems that you have several projects, but I was only able to download one of them (Korax Mod), which was, honestly saying, least of interest to me. 2) What should I do? What to start with? I understand, I need to examine your work more closely to know what you have done already.

I gave you access to the internal developer forum, you'll find all infos and download links there. Just make sure you don't make any of it accessible to anyone outside the team (nor talk about it in public).
