lan on Win98 (ipx)

i know it doesn't concern the forum at all and that other places to ask for this, but well i haven't been succesfull in solving it and though of bothering you guys for a while, i thank any help I'm trying to set up a Lan on ipx (to play old fps specially) on win98. I already got the de drivers installed in the Network tcp/ip, ipx as default and with netbios access and netbeui. The problem that i got is that i can't manage to make it work... although the pcs can see each other in the network window in win and can exchange files (wich i beleive is due to due netbeui and not the ipx). I have 3 machines, two AMD (duron and semptron) and a intel (pentium 1). The first two onboard and the pentium with a pci realtek. I start the game so as to look nodes, and both amds can see the pentium, but not the other way. If the pentium sends a message, it is repeated constantly in the others (as if it hasn't got the answer that the message was received). After a while, the pentium tilts. All three machines with win98 When i had set only the ipx protocol i couldn't send big files from a machine to another, after some time it just stood still the transfer (same problem??) Any ideas how can i solve this?? PD: this is the spanish version which i just transaltes when i posted the same problem (so only read it if you are bored and know some spanish) estoy intentando armar una red ipx en casa bajo win 98 para jugar juegos viejos que solo soportan ipx.

What network cards are you using? I use a bunch of Realtek RTL8139(A)'s, they worked in IPX between a p100 and a Athlon950, Win98 and WinME respectively in Ethernet 802.3. (Was for a SpacePod demo deathmatch, fun game, ran great on the p100 too even though it's an extremely recent game)

The problem could be related to your network cables maybe, or the processor speed each computer has, the fastest computer sends the messages too fast, and the other cmoputers can't receive them, or they receive a part of them and while they process the next part gets lost. You could always check your driver versions for new ones or try upgrading to Win98 SE (Secon Edition), which may help you out a bit. Hope you can solve your problem .

oh, forgot to note that, it's win98se (the only onw i have ever had). i'll see that of the cpu speeds... edit: i've got a Realtek RTL8139 on the p166, SiS 900 PCI on the duron, VIA Rhine II en the semptron

[quote="PePe QuiCoSE":i8a3qwip]edit: i've got a Realtek RTL8139 on the p166, SiS 900 PCI on the duron, VIA Rhine II en the semptron Dunno about those last two, never experienced with those cards D: So my only suggestion for now, is to buy or find some rtl8139 ethernet cards, they worked for me, and they're pretty fast and cheap, and definitely work with IPX. CPU shouldn't matter, nor should the OS. IPX is quite a simple protocol as i've used in just pure DOS before in 94-95 with almost a no hassle setup.
