Hmmm... what about instead of having the player being still for 3 seconds, that instead the effect is slow? You activate the spell, and you get 2 health per second or something. That way, the spell is still helpful in battle, only extremely little, and one don't need to wait 3 or so seconds (okay, I know it isn't much, but still...)
