Korax Arena maps

KA needs custom maps (item placement). There are basically four sources for maps: - original Hexen and Heretic maps (the first need scripts/puzzles/exits etc. disabled the second a conversion) - gamer-made Hexen or Heretic maps (we've got some from Levelkiller and there are also a lot out there that can be freely used) - new maps from scratch - rebuild of Hexen II etc. maps in Vavoom (makes sense only with very good maps like a part of the Barbican map), since it's a lot of work. KA 0.1 would need at least 1-2 maps, optimally 3-4. Post your suggestions here for possible maps of either type (if it's #2, best you post a download link too).

The 4th Class

For gamer-made Hexen maps, I always thought the first or second levels from Caldera would make very cool multiplayer maps - they're huge and open-spaced, perfect for the Summon Contest. (I also once made a deathmatch variation on Dark Realms, but it's not that good).

I'll have a look for some of my old levels, see if any of them could possibly be used. But I have a feeling I deleted most of them.

Caldera is no go, its author explicitly forbid all changes to his stuff. That's why it won't have a KMOD3 enhanced version neither. Please suggest only 3rd party maps that have an explicit statement in the readme that allows you to use their work in any way.

I've found one of my maps for vavoom, IceCave, I'll fix it up and upload it if you like although it's not really that good.

Heh I didn't know you made maps for Vavoom.

Only a few, and they were just me testing vavooms features, I wrote the vavoom water tutorial. And before I started programming I was making .wads. Tonnes of the things, I didn't put them on the internet though, I didn't think they were good enough.

Sorry, I had no idea. BTW RambOrc, about your concept for a huge hub that connected all the games together, I found a map I made that might be a possible candidate. It's a bit small, but I can expand on it. I'll post it tomorrow if you're interested.

I've been touching up what already exsisted of my map and might upload it later today so you can see/critisise it

Bit later than I said but still who cares. It's not compleat, it needs items and most of the slopes but the basics are there for you to look at, if you like it say so and I'll continue with it (or somone else can) if you don't like it also say so.

I like it, it's got style - especially ceilings need more detail IMO, but the concept is cool (in both meanings of the word, LOL). I say finish it, whether as SP or MP map is an open Q (or maybe for both).

I hope you don't mind the one I'm linking here - it's a little mediocre, and there's a lot of bugs in it. You can give it a try if you want.

Good you like it . I've only done slopes in 2 of the rooms so far, but I like the effect they gave so I'll probably continue in that style. What did you think of everywhere being ice, I wanted to make it a little more difficult to play on. Now I've just got to finish it inbetween programming, school and sleep.

Ice floors are OK for SP but IMO not for MP (at least not a whole level).

Fine I'll change it back to what it was to start with.

Huh?

Well when it was a SP level it was just a normal cave then I turned it into a MP with ice floors. 4th class - I played your level and I like it even though it was a little annoying (did the star steps ever end?) and could be even better if enhanced with vavoom's features.

Yes the star steps eventually end - AFAIR about 5 cycles was what I gave it. When you see the stairway cut short at the top, take an immediate jolt to the right. You can't see the step that's there, even though it's in a sector with full brightness. Another bug? As for Vavoom, it's on my computer but last time I tried using it I think it wouldn't work. Whatever the reason, I'll try again.

I think no matter how incompatible your hardware is, by setting vlaunch to no sound and software rendering it should run fine.
