LOL yesterday was one of those occasions when I get a sudden drive/inspiration, not only did I type the text as fast as I could (and ideas wanting to come out even faster), two of the game types I invented from scratch while typing the document. Club the pig I think is a quite funny idea, and Sumon Contest if pulled off right could be a very different gameplay experience. It wasn't a 100% new idea, back in 2002 or so there was I think a vague idea for a summon contest mode, which would have been a one-on-one only game mode with Mage characters only (and the summon spell would have been a standard spell of the mage), but when I remembered this last night and started to write it a whole new game type, completely different, came to my mind. I also planned earlier on to put the cannons mod as a gameplay type, but in this contest I think it'd be even more fun. I think Summon Contest might also be realized as an optional team game, where one guy summons, one guy attacks with the monsters and one guy defends the base, mostly with the catapult. As for the DOOM marine, that was an idea I threw up back in 2001 and Remi was for it if I remember right, but I wasn't sure about it back then and I'm not sure about it now, neither pro nor con. This is one of the things the team as a whole should decide about.

Good to hear, I guess that makes 2 of the team with a sudden drive and mago looks like he might have one too. I like all of your ideas, more as a gamer than a programmer. And agree that done right the summoning one could be good.

Though never forget that IMO plain deathmatch itself will be great fun in Arena because of the class/weapons variety, the leveling up and the environment/setting.

And even better from my POV because it's already in the codebase it'll just need tweaking to suit our needs. Hopefully Janis' skills will be even etter so he can improve the network and internet stability. Well have to test it all together of cause. Woo I can't wait.

I didn't put it in the document yesterday but I already said it earlier on, I plan Korax Arena to have continous new public releases from the beginning so that interest can grow and it can be popular even before all stuff is integrated. My goal for the first release (0.1) is that it has working deathmatch with at least some new weapons and maps (and if possible the Heretic character class as well), and that the EXP/level system is working.

I think Vavoom already has everything coded for the Heretic class, it just needs to be copied from the Heretic part of the code, right?

BTW some good news, Camper started work on Arena, he coded the EXP system, it's not working fully yet but if you kill a monster its HP is added to your EXP which is displayed on-screen. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

LOL we could actually really add ourselves to KA like id added themselves to Q3A. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> BTW Korax Arena is a working title, it might yet change - another idea I had is Serpent Tournament, or a 3rd version is to call it Korax Arena, with the subtitle "Tournament of the Serpent Riders". These names are to signify what we took as examples and also that it contains stuff from more than one Heretic/Hexen game (I plan to use quite a couple of original Heretic maps or parts of them in Korax Arena, and also rebuild some from Hexen II if possible, like the Barbican would be a great Assault map).

Hey that just gave me an idea... I was always thinking about remaking ShadowCaster in Vavoom (which is still a possibility one day), this time with not only SP but also MP where you can morph into the 6 forms. Maybe there could be a game mode in KA where you do this polymorphing... dunno.

There might be money collected or won in the games which you could spend in a shop on this map.

It's a mod for Quake (never could get it to work though) and Quake3, I'll look up the site if you want to see it although it's quite a large file if I remember correctly. It basicly just adds a few weapons and some new items (e.g. baked beans, they give you health but make you bounce around and make um... noise <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":twisted:" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: --> ). And before you play a match you go to the HUB where you vote for the next level by going through it's portal, you are then teleported to an arena to fight it out until the time runs out then the votes are counted and the level with the most votes is played.

I like the idea of maybe make some base classes (the 3 basic classes of Hexen, plus the Heretic, plus Assasin or something more, and the monsters of both hexen and heretic, give them some attributes of their own and let them manage different weapons or even spells), it might be a cool idea to play as a Heresiarch (which may have a lot of spells <!-- s:twisted: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_twisted.gif" alt=":twisted:" title="Twisted Evil" /><!-- s:twisted: --> ), or to play as any of the monsters, it sounds cool for me, and I think some parts of code are already there (posession spell), what do u think??
