KMOD 2.2 wrap-up

Well slowly it'd be time to release it. I don't think any major bugs are going to come in any more. The only ones lately are anyway in Deathkings only. For that, I'll try to play it through with the last build of the code which we intend to release, and if I can play it through w/o probs then it can't be THAT buggy (oops, that's what I thought about KMOD 1.0, LOL). Anyway, if there is still anything to be made for it by anyone (be it programming or something else), let's list it here so nothing gets forgotten. This is the to-do-list I know of: 1) Fixing 2 probs that have been posted in the KMOD2 bugs topic earlier this week. 2) Add Janis to credits screen... that just reminds me, in earlier versions if you pressed F1 there were only strange colors on the monitor but no help screens. In 2.1, if you press F1 the game crashes. Can it be fixed? Can it even be fixed so far as to allow proper displaying of the help screens (I'd make one for the spells and one for the shops in that case)? 3) Check the manual whether something changed since 2.1.

What exactly? <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

Since there's no way a graphic can cause crashes, there must be some bug. I'll check it now. <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

I found where's the prob with help screens. You know how Raven does this? It finds index of the lump TITLE and then adds the help page number. So in order to work wad file must have lumps in the following order: TITLE, HELP1, HELP2, CREDIT. The new binaries searches help page by the correct name. And BTW, I thing the same goes for Heretic, so make sure that you don't have the same problem in Hell's Surface.

Sorry for long reply time, our ISP took nearly 4 days to update the DNS. While I could reach the site and the forums through the IP, UBB wouldn't work w/o the URL as well. <blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

I even listed this in the readme as the only major bug in Hell's Surface since release 1.0, so how do I fix this?

I fixed the problem, and I'm going to send you the new hell.wad file. What I did was rearrange it so that TITLE was first, then HELP1, HELP2, CREDIT, DEMO1, DEMO2, and DEMO3. I had to add the help pictures and credit, otherwise, you'd get scrambled pictures instead, but it wouldn't cause a crash. Now it works perfectly.

I have since decided to do the same thing to the kmod2.wad. Now, that bug is gone. Oops... I forgot to add the mapinfo.txt to the wadfile. It's just as well, since it's an older version. All you need to do to fix the bug is to use WinTex to add the files (demos, help1, help2, etc.) in the order listed there, and it should work. [ April 04, 2002: Message edited by: Ichor ]</p>

There's no need to add demos, just the graphics.

Still another bug for the 2.2 patch, if in multiplayer you're dead and your buddy transfers you to another map, you lose all your stats. If it's easy to fix, pls do it, if it's difficult, just forget about it. This week was extreme, next week should be *somewhat* better, I'll try to squeeze in the changes for KMOD 2.2 from my side. There is one thing I want to know your opinions about before I do that, though (see other topic).

OK, I fixed this bug. I cleaned up server from all my old files and uploaded a new file with fixed korax.dll, latest doomsday.exe, kmod2.wad where I also added music for the shop maps and dk-shops.wad with fixed MAPINFO and with fixed music.

Whoa, you're doing amazing work here. I'm going to test this and get back here to report my findings. BTW could you give me the # for the citymage in hex? The Wadauthor WCF files use hex for the entity numbers (and I didn't need Camper for that, BTW ).

12034 in hex is 0x2f02. But WadAuthor accepts decimal numbers as whell. And to get a hex number, start a Windows calculator, change view to scientific, select number format "Dec", enter number , select number format "Hex" and it will show the number in hex.
