Wow. Nice screenshots, i must say, that level-over-level [and the roofs] looks real and not some cheezy sprite effect. (oh, god, please let it be real level-over-level! ) Well, i think i might want to make some maps for either my own use, or to give to the game but first i have to know the following things: 1) Where is possibly the best Hexen map creator available? 2) Is there anything "Special" i have to get (IE: Download) to make maps for either hexen or kmod? (aside from the map creator itself) 3) How do i run the map with Kmod when i finish it? 4) Can the levels i make have a chance to be put into the game even if they arn't hub levels? (IE: Linear level progression similar to Duke Nukem 3D) And if they are hub levels? What about a single map? [edit - 5) Where/who do i send the map to if i choose to submit a map? 6) Is there a mapping deadline?]

1) I use WadAuthor 2) You go to http://www.vavoom-engine.com and download the Vavoom specs file for WadAuthor 3) You don't if you made it in Vavoom - but you can run it in Vavoom, and that's the engine we use for our future projects to which we are looking for map(per)s. 4) Yep, if they are good they most probably will be put into either of our two upcoming projects. 5) Just post in the forums once you've got it and if you don't have a place to upload to, I'll give you a login info. 6) Nope, but as always, the sooner the better.

I use DeepSEA though it's a bit limited and it's shareware. Sometimes i just popup DOSBOX and run DCK instead.

Alright, i've create a small test-ish map i think will run properly. Now, how do i run this map with KMOD in either Doomsday or Vavoom? Or is it impossible to run the map on KMOD on vavoom? In fact, could i ever even run a single custom map on KMOD? As well, can it be possible to make a map that starts AFTER the last level or is this impossible? (IE: there's 31 maps in Hexen, so could i make map32 and run that? Or do i HAVE to "replace" one of the original maps?) I just want to make sure that the map i may release (when and if i finish it) will be as ballanced and as glitch-free as possible, because i dont want to screw it up and have too many baddies, not enough items, inaccessable areas, etc, etc. Old games are fun to play, but are a total pain in the a** to use on XP... *shudder*

OK let's make it straight: - KMOD uses an old mid-2000 build of Doomsday (0.99.6), with a lot of custom coding (some of it even on engine level). This makes it incompatible with current Doomsday versions (DD 1.x is not compatible with 0.9x). It's also not compatible with Vavoom. In short, KMOD works with no contemporary source port, only with the port provided in the distribution. - Our upcoming single player RPG, Scattered Evil, is built on Vavoom. - Our upcoming not yet announced multiplayer title is built on Vavoom too. If you want to know about these projects and would like to map for them, join our team (all you need is to apply here and show us a sample work). As for making custom maps for KMOD, it's possible, all you need is a WadAuthor custom config file (I think it's included in latest KMOD distributions, better ask Janis or Moose about it). You can make the map any number, you should just check the wadfiles first to see whether that number isn't already taken (over 80, I think every number is free, and some numbers below 70 too I think). Also, upcoming KMOD 3.0 (release date unknown, most probably sometime in 2004) will have a lot better support for custom maps and hubs. p.s. regarding old games, that's why I still keep my old Pentium MMX with DOS 6 and Win95.

Why are you asking me and Janis about the KMod WadAuthor config, you're the person who does the distro files. But if you like I could send you the KMod2 config file, or maybe even the KMod3 beta config if Ramborc would allow it (although most of the new specials wont work)

KMOD 3 beta is for team members only. But the KMOD 2 config files are freely available to anyone (man I thought it's in the distro, but I didn't know I was supposed to have it put in there ).

Shall I make a KMod2 config or do you have one somewhere?

We're talking about the WadAuthor config file, right?

Yer.

I looked in my WA dir and didn't find the file, so if you have it, you can send it to me too.

I'll upload it to KDev then you could put it somwhere for people to download. Do the news and everything, we might even get more mappers.

I just inadvertantly helped you, didn't i? And just to tell you i do have previous mapping exp in games like HL and Quake (specifically the HL modification called Natural Selection - though they've never been sent in) and on a old Win98 120Mhz 2Mb video card (now monitorless - i have 3 computers, and only 2 monitors.) i made a single test map for doom (Linedefs have to face inwards. Hehehe. ) just to see if i could figure out how to do it. I'm pretty sure that i can remember what to do to map for Doom, and since Hexen is built off of Doom, i can probably map for it. And because it looks like you're doing true 3D stuff with Hexen, my HL experiance may aid construction of maps greatly... Hmm... I might consider joining up, but school work > mod work; though modwork = fun... GRRR i hate school for school != fun ... I wonder if i have doom (or was it doom 2?) still installed on that computer... heh. heheheh.

Oops forgot I was ment to do this, personally I blame the FTP problems I was having last time I tried. I'll do it now. Edit: Forget that, I can't log into the FTP, I'll sort it out tomorrow when I have more time.

Herr jaquboss

Reviving this : For mapping in Doom Engine , I use Doom Builder , which is free at least.. I did all needed configs for Vavoom , so I have no problem with it.. Only problem is with scripting because it require to use external tools to add a script
