I give up

Sun, 26 Jan 2003 14:47:41

Moose

No not on the project, I said I wouldn't and I wont. I give up on CVS so unless I say otherwise could Janis put the latest SE code up on KoraxDev. Then we can all be happy and Coding the minimum for SE should only take a week or 2.
Tue, 28 Jan 2003 07:33:28

dj_jl

Sure, but I can't do it here, but from another computer, and that will be only at the end of the week.
Tue, 28 Jan 2003 21:44:22

Moose

Ok, is that end of the work week or the week week.

LOL what about "Friday" and "Sunday". <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> Anyway, I've got something that might be what you need, it's in the "source" subdir on koraxdev (korax-cvsroot.tar). It's theoretically the whole CVS thingie but I'm not sure how much of it is needed and whether all important stuff is in there. Janis if you could download and check that file, maybe it's what you'd have anyway. It's maybe 2 months old, but AFAIK nobody changed the CVS since last Summer, or am I mistaken?
Wed, 29 Jan 2003 19:23:26

Moose

Thats another way of putting it. Simpler aswell.

This is an excerpt from my Oxford English-English dictionary:
mother tongue language that one first learned to speak as a child; one's native language
You are a native speaker of English, aren't you? <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->

Yes, english is my 1st language. Can't speak it very well but, yes.
Thu, 30 Jan 2003 07:50:37

dj_jl

I mean Saturday. The tar file contains CVS snapshot in CVS format which isn't directly usable, i.e. you need to use CVS program to get the code.
Thu, 30 Jan 2003 11:15:45

RambOrc

But it's still a fullbackup of the complete source code, right? That's why I downloaded it namely.

Thanks Janis, so hopefuly I'll have an as done as can be version of SE for around the 15th feb. Oh and Ramborc Phil has started doing Korax' Fortress again, he's making a new site and was wondering about News Scripts, where can he get the one we use?

[quote="Moose":3dy0woq3]Thanks Janis, so hopefuly I'll have an as done as can be version of SE for around the 15th feb. Yes, if thats your price Phil or I will post on ravengames aswell. Will we need an account for Ravengames to do that.

You know, I was just wondering what happened to him. His last update was back in August. Also, what happened to that guy who was making Hexplosion?
Fri, 31 Jan 2003 13:28:09

RambOrc

Lyubomir? He came to me around July 2001, assuming RavenGames is Raven Software and sent me tons of info on how a new Serpent Riders sequel should look like. I forwarded it to Raven Software who of course disregards all such stuff - even if they would work on a sequel of Heretic/Hexen, they couldn't use any of his ideas because of the copyright. So Lyubomir got a nice e-mail from Raven with a prompt refusal. At that point I stepped in again... instead of letting the stuff die unread, I offered him to get it online so he has some publicity and a chance to find people to create a TC after his ideas with the Heretic II engine. Indeed back in August-September 2001 Hexplosion was the most visited hosted site (not that there were too many back then, LOL). It's anyone's guess why the project never started out at all. Fact is, Lyubomir hung around in the RavenGames forums for a couple of weeks or so after the release of the Hexplosion site and then disappeared for good. Haven't heard of him since then. Here are all his posts on the RavenGames forums (July 31, 2001 - October 1, 2001): <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ravenforums.com/search.php?search_author=Korax">http://www.ravenforums.com/search.php?s ... thor=Korax</a><!-- m -->

Hmm... I wonder how much my site is being visited. I never had much use for counters, but I do get curious every so often.
Fri, 31 Jan 2003 16:16:11

Moose

Will Phil need his new site up befor u do the news script?
Fri, 31 Jan 2003 16:21:35

RambOrc

LOL, I still remember when I offered you ~1-1.5 years ago to install a counter on your site and you never answered. <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> Anyway, if you take the pains to go to <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://fury.ravencommunity.net:2082/">http://fury.ravencommunity.net:2082/</a><!-- m --> and log in with the same info you use for FTP, you can check your stats with 3 different progs ("Account Settings" / "Web/FTP Stats"). You can also configure a counter for yourself easily at "Tools" / "CGI Center" / "Counter" and then copy+paste a single line of HTML output into your page. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

Ok, a couple of questions: Does the counter count the number of times a picture is loaded as an avatar for another forum? Why does it start at the end of November and end at January 18th or so, instead of continuing on to today?
Sat, 01 Feb 2003 18:14:34

dj_jl

The latest source code, se-src-01-02-2003.zip has been uploaded for ya, it's in the source folder.

Thanks Janis, how many times have I said that <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->. I'll start work now.

If I compile the code as you gave it I get lots of errors 110 to be exact, most of them seem to be compiler limits and missing semi-colons, how can I fix it?
Mon, 03 Feb 2003 15:14:45

dj_jl

What's the first error you get?
Mon, 03 Feb 2003 16:33:17

[quote="Ichor":2la3d80s]Ok, a couple of questions: Does the counter count the number of times a picture is loaded as an avatar for another forum? Why does it start at the end of November and end at January 18th or so, instead of continuing on to today? A graphical or text counter measures only hits to HTML (PHP etc.) pages, not to image or other media files. If you talk about AwStats, that one seems to be broken since I reconfigured something around mid-January, and it seems reverting the changes didn't help. I?ll contact the author of the control panel system one of these days so he can look into it. Meanwhile, Analog has all stats from the beginning (from the point your site is on the new server, that is), though I think the actual numbers are somehow overblown. General tendencies are OK though. Webalizer gives pretty accurate stats, but resets at the beginning of each month - meaning you could save the Webalizer stats page at the end of every month and store them on your computer and that way you?d have a complete stats history at your disposal. And before you ask, I use the same stats myself for those sites that are on the new server... and I use a manually configured version of Analog for the old server (where the large network sites are).
Tue, 04 Feb 2003 17:25:45

dj_jl

Wow! And old code did compile? What version of MSVC you are using? Oh - and try to build a release.
Tue, 04 Feb 2003 18:23:56

Moose

MSVC v6.
Wed, 05 Feb 2003 07:27:35

dj_jl

Do you have the same errors in release build?
Fri, 07 Feb 2003 18:21:02

dj_jl

Common, where are you? Anyways tomorow I will be able to test it myself.
Fri, 07 Feb 2003 20:22:56

RambOrc

Just a stupid question, if Moose really can't compile the code, if he sends it to you Janis can you merge his changes with the original version and then build it?
Fri, 07 Feb 2003 20:34:14

Moose

I've been here but have been pritty ill and lazy. I'll do it now.
Fri, 07 Feb 2003 21:29:41

Moose

Release build worked better, now theres just missing semicolons and headerfiles.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 07:54:32

dj_jl

Make sure that you have installed: - DirectX 8.1 SDK - A3D SDK - EAX SDK Then make sure that you have set up their include and library directories (in Tools -> Options -> Directories) and that in the list DirectX is before MSVC directories. If there's still errors, write them down here.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 07:56:13

dj_jl

Oh, and of course I can merge the changes, compile binaries and update sourcce into CVS.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 10:20:50

Moose

Downloading now, but it could take a while. DX8.1 SDK is over 150mb. Need broadband.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 11:09:19

RambOrc

What's your connection? 56K?
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 11:34:29

Moose

Its a 64k ISDN line.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 12:04:46

RambOrc

You can make it 128K with channel bundling (I wouldn't leave it on that mode for longer times though as you pay twice the phone costs in this time and also both lines are used, so nobody can use the phone neither).
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 12:10:11

Moose

Thats why my dad wont let me use 128k. But atleast we have free internet access.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 12:14:28

RambOrc

Yeah, free except for phone costs... anyway, in the future if there are several hundred megs you need for the Korax project you need to download, you can send me a list of direct d/l links and I'll send you a CD (it'll take about a week though).
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 12:20:00

Moose

I'll do that.
Sat, 08 Feb 2003 18:41:11

Moose

I've now got DX8.1 SDK took just a bit over 7 hours. I hope the others are smaller.
Mon, 10 Feb 2003 07:41:15

dj_jl

Yes, they are really small compared to DirectX.
Thu, 13 Feb 2003 21:11:09

Moose

I wont be able to do anything more till after monday because I'm going to see some old friends over the weekend, and tomorrow I'll be laughing at Phil. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> Valantines day, heh heh heh. Oh and I've got the red chaos serpent done, I think. Not quite sure how to test though.
Fri, 14 Feb 2003 07:56:32

dj_jl

That is, you managed to compile it, right?
Fri, 14 Feb 2003 11:16:06

RambOrc

Now that would be some good news.
Fri, 21 Feb 2003 20:25:35

Moose

Sorry about the long wait for a reply, yes I can compile.
Sat, 22 Feb 2003 10:43:34

dj_jl

Good to hear that! Keep on working, since I also think that we must release it ASAP.
Sat, 22 Feb 2003 12:05:38

Moose

Another little problem for you, after killing off a few little errors for the red demon I still can compile because I'm greeted by:
Linking... LINK : fatal error LNK1181: cannot open input file "eaxguid.lib" Error executing link.exe. ScatteredEvil.exe - 1 error(s), 0 warning(s)
How do I fix this? Oh and how would I go about testing it?
Mon, 24 Feb 2003 07:43:33

dj_jl

Simply you must add EAX library to the libraries path. Go to the Tools -> Options, select Directories tab, choose "Library files" and add EAX library path here. Another option is to copy EAX library files into MSVA library folder.
Mon, 24 Feb 2003 20:18:36

Moose

Fixed and it compiles and runs. Now how would I test the Demon in a level?
Mon, 24 Feb 2003 20:28:44

RambOrc

Do you have WadAuthor? You can add a new antry to hexen.wcl (I think that's the config file name, not 100% sure) and then it shows up in the WadAuthor list so you can add it to a test map and run it.
Mon, 24 Feb 2003 20:45:46

Moose

Wish I hadn't done that it now crashes. The log ends:
SN_InitSequenceScript: Registering sound sequences. SB_Init: Loading patches. S_LoadTextureTypes: textypes.txt not found. P_SpawnMapThing: Unknown type 12035 at (0, 384) - TryRunTics - DD_GameLoop - DD_Main
Mon, 24 Feb 2003 20:58:46

RambOrc

Seems pretty straightforward, you defined something else in WadAuthor than in the program code. Also, if you remove that entity from the map, SE will start up again fine (I think).
Tue, 25 Feb 2003 17:37:32

Moose

All done, well almost I still need damage skins for him, now I know what I'm doing I'll do the stone centuar and the weapons.
Tue, 25 Feb 2003 21:40:35

RambOrc

You mean you got the Red Serpent working as a new enemy, i.e. not as a replace of an existing serpent? Sounds too good to be true. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> Just insert the normal frames a 2nd time as damage skin so that the code part of the monster can be completely finished already (or use the brown serpent damage skin for the time being, that's maybe even better, then you always see whether it works).
Tue, 25 Feb 2003 21:52:48

Moose

Yes in without replacing the green serpents. I'll do what you said about the damage skins. Oh and the Stone Centaurs and Stone Centaur Leaders are in but need a little work.
Tue, 25 Feb 2003 22:17:51

RambOrc

Actually I was hoping for more stone monsters and had a kind of plot for it, but I guess it can't be done for SE, so maybe this monster should be reserved for TSP? The other monster mods are no prob, they can just put in at random as replacement for their original counterparts in different maps (or used consistently as replacement, depending on the map's theme).
Wed, 26 Feb 2003 15:53:49

Moose

Now you tell me. <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_rolleyes.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling Eyes" /><!-- s:roll: -->
Wed, 26 Feb 2003 19:16:38

RambOrc

LOL just leave it in for the moment and upload a working build ASAP so I can take a look at that monster again so I can make up my mind.
Wed, 26 Feb 2003 19:28:58

Moose

OK I'll upload it with the needed wads. Just don't use Mage he is having a weapon added. Their not finished because I need the death frames.
Wed, 26 Feb 2003 20:06:11

RambOrc

You mean I shouldn't kill any of the new monsters or the game will crash?
Wed, 26 Feb 2003 20:28:37

Moose

No just do use Mage cause I don't know if he'll have problems.
