I'm thinking about an idea for a Hexen megawad. I've been placing my ideas on the drawing board and here's what I have so far:
Prologue: The Serpent's Maw
Hub 1: Decrepit Town
Hub 2: Venom Monastery
Hub 3: Razor Mountains
Hub 4: Stronghold of Treachery
Hub 5: Inner Sanctum
Epilogue: The Serpent's Lair
It won't include new sprites or sounds just levels. And no I'm not trying to get other people to map for me though feel free to participate if you're interested. This is just an idea I thought I'd share with the community. I may not even do all 5 hubs, just as much as is realistically possible.

If you turn those hub names into map names then you'd have a project you could do yourself

What about contributing few maps for Scattered Evil?
We already have advanced monster AI which allows to give orders to them, and some new monsters also.

Well, then practice a lot, mapping is a very time absorbing thing, I've been mapping for 3 weeks now and slowly advancing, learn how to make special effects that are cool man .

It's not easy (or even remotely quick) to make an entire 5 hub megawad, believe me. I'd stick to making just one, maybe two if you have enough time and patience.

Yeah, especially if you want to have good maps with sense and atmosphere.

Heh, as much as possible (though "possible" - can be not too much actually)

Yep, since both our megawads have been in development for years and not finished yet

Yes, mapping takes a lot of time. It can take days to make one simple map. Weeks for an extremely complex one. From my experience, mapping is fun at first but after successfully completing one or two you get tired and bored from it easily, and it begins to feel more like a chore than a hobby.
You mentioned no new graphics or sounds, but would your project be using the enhanced elements of Zdoom or 3D effects of GZdoom and such? Mapping might be fun for me again if I do a completely spontaneus Hexen map rather than straining my brain to try to think of ways to make my own (non-hexen) project perfect. What are your intensions for each of these hubs? The name "Decrepid town" suggests a ghost village of some sort. But what other environments would the levels around it include? Forests? Mountains? Maybe even a sewer? Would these be Hexen-style in that all maps in a hub are connected together and the player must traverse between them to get things done or is it the old-school level-by-level sequence kind of thing?
