I want your ideas/tricks on how to build foliage in Vavoom. The ground foliage will probably be easy, we could use the same system modern full-3D games use as well (bunch of 2D objects at a fixed position and angle), but what about larger shrubs/bushes and especially about trees? The original Hexen trees can be used as decoration at places where the player can't walk right up to them, like I did on the other side of the river in the city map. But I can't very well place those trees onto the city streets - well I will if I have to, but would prefer trees that have real trunks and have asts and leaves that are over the player's head.

Crimson Wizard

Only way I see at the moment is to build trunk and largest branches using map sectors and 3d floors, then place little branches with lots of leaves as things with flat oriented sprites (vavoom does support this already). EDIT: Here comes another idea, it could be made using flat 3dfloor and placing a texture on floor/ceiling with foliage drawn over it. OR one may use combination of these two methods.

THAT or using 3d models, which is not the best solution either IMO. I've seen some nice trees done in certain doom maps using only single lines and sidedefs, of course, it sometimes looks odd if you can walk too near to them <!-- s:? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/orchmm.gif" alt=":?" title="Confused" /><!-- s:? --> .
