Experience Points

What are the experience points of all the monsters? I've also noticed some of the monsters are stronger, especially those pesky Dark Bishops. They may not do more damage, but they take longer to kill, so I'm guessing their experience points are fairly high.

Experience points (EXP) are currently the same number as the original health of a monster, with a +/- 10% variation. That means if you kill an Ettin which has 150 HP, you will get an EXP somewhere between 135 and 165. Yes, the HP of some monsters has been increased. The HP of the brown Chaos Serpents has been doubled already half a year or so ago for the then upcoming (and never released) Alpha Demo (also, their melee attack deals double the damage as before). The HP of some other monsters has been increased in the internal Alpha testing phase for Korax Mod. I started to play the Alpha version of Korax Mod with the Fighter and while it was a challenge in Seven Portals, towards the middle of Shadow Wood it became too easy and thus boring. That was when I got the idea to strengthen some of the monsters that appear only in later stages. I wanted to make the Slaughtaurs real strong so they got 1200 HP, and one of the 2 types of Reivers got a health boost as well. The HP of the Dark Bishops has been increased, too... we pondered with Camper about what level to take it to and I started musing: "they're serving the evil... and what's the number of the beast?" - so the Dark Bishops now have a HP of 666... Also, all boss monsters (Death Wyvern, Heresiarch, the 3 leaders of the orders) got a 10x HP boost, and Korax itself a 20x HP boost to a whopping 100'000 HP (instead of the lame 5000 of Hexen). BTW in the upcoming Korax Mod II you'll be able to see yourself how much HP each monster has - with a new spell of the mage you'll be able to possess monsters. You have no idea how much fun it is to possess a Centaur Leader and start smashing Ettins and shooting down Afrits from the sky or block any attacks with the shield... I've also noticed that once I reached level 12, the experience points needed for the next level are nearly as much as all the experience points I already have so far. Playing through from start to finish, what's the highest level you've managed to reach? I'm guessing it's about 15 or so, since I am on the third hub at level 12. An idea for more experience points could be if you solve certain puzzles. The harder, more complicated puzzles will give you more experience points than an easier puzzle. And as for Korax, wouldn't raising the health of something over 10000 cause some problems, especially when using the butcher code? That, and fall damage, causes 10000 damage, and if something has greater health than that amount, probably won't die, and could possibly cause an error. I've been considering the idea of possessing, or maybe just stunning, monsters (not the boss monsters though), but I had no idea on how to do it.

The 15 is right provided you play on skill 3 and kill most of the monsters. Somewhen in the Necropolis hub you should reach the 1'048'576 EXP which is required for level 10. The additional levels are added at no change concerning the EXP when you touch D'Sparil's Heart in the Bright Crucible (the secret map of the Seven Portals hub). The number of the extra levels vary depending on the difficulty skill, and I thought it should be 5 for easy, 4 for medium and 3 for hard but maybe it was 4/3/2... at any rate, none of the 2 seems to give Level 15 at the end of Necropolis, strange... I guess Camper just screwed up something and didn't include the exact table I wrote up for him... anyway, as you see if you don't find the secret level in the 7 Portals, you will never go over Level 10 and maybe not even exceed level 9... that's why Korax Mod has been tuned the way that nothing new happens over level 9, except for still increasing stats... you get the highest spells at level 9, you can use all artifacts at that or lower levels, etc. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

For the TC Korax' Heritage something similar is actually planned, you'll get EXP for finding out things, for reading informative books, for talking to NPCs who tell you good stuff, for solving quests. Indeed, when completing a difficult or complicated sidequest, you might get more EXP for delivering the object (or maiden or whatever ) to the NPC who gave you the quest, then through the monsters you stomped out while finishing the sidequest. <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote

Now that you tell this I seem to recall something Camper blubbered months ago to which I paid but scant attention... at any rate, it seems he solved the prob on his own as the "mad butcher" cheat definitely kills all monsters above 10'000 HP (which is everything starting with the Death Wyvern). Though it's something interesting with Korax, I've got the feeling there are actually 2 Koraxes in the game becuz when you use the "mad butcher" cheat and kill him in his antechamber, he teleports away. I guess you simply blast him until he'd die in the normal game as well, and he teleports to nothing and the Korax you see later on in the 2nd chamber is another Korax, someone should check it in the original map.... ...just checked it... no. There's only one Korax in the map, it's gotta work another way, I guess it could be figure out only with the help of the source code. And that's not my turn any more... Tzar Sectus has nearly finished programming the possession spell and also some other spells like raising spirits of the dead and summoning all kinds of monsters (bye-bye, stupid Maulotaur). Korax is open source, the reason it's not out for download is because it's changed all the time and also becuz Korax Mod's source code contains some Korax' Heritage specific info like shopping system, changing of day and night, calender function, journal with bestiary, item descriptions etc. But you can use any of the stuff our team coded into the Korax engine, you'll just have to wait a couple of weeks or so becuz Tzar Sectus' computer broke down and he sent it into the service before sending his latest source code to anyone else in the team. OTOH if you want to see how it works and want to try the latest running build (which includes besides above described spells also an all-new berserker mode for the Fighter), just drop me a mail and I'll mail you the DLL.

When Korax's health goes below halfway, he teleports to mapspot number 248. It's part of the source code in p_enemy.c. The spot is called 'KORAX_FIRST_TELEPORT_TID'.
Wed, 08 Aug 2001 05:37:00

RambOrc

That means if you put him into a map which doesn't have mapspot #248, the game crashes once he got less than half his health or what?
Wed, 08 Aug 2001 06:23:00

Ichor

No. It means he just won't teleport anywhere. However, you need a few mapspot 249s. Those are his teleport points after he goes below half. Leaving these out will crash the game, but not 248.

On finishing the secret level in Seven Portals, I went from level 7 to level 10 instantly. A bug / am I just a lucky fella?

The moment you grab D'Sparil's Heart in the Bright Crucible, you go up 3-5 levels (depending on skill). This is a secret reward for very thorough Hexen players. p.s. as a side note about the numbers on this discussion above (from August), in KMOD2 some numbers have been modified again... Slaughtaurs now have a somewhat lower health, but do more damage; the 3 tomb bosses and the Death Wyvern now have double as much HP as in KMOD (==> 20x as much as in Hexen), and Korax now has an insane 500'000 HP, that's 100x of what he had in the original Hexen. While it might sound impossible to beat him, it was quite possible to beat him in KMOD2 with the 100'000 HP and in KMOD2 all character classes are stronger, have new spells and can stock up on crucial items in the shops. To raise spirits some, the Heresiarch hasn't changed since KMOD (he was tough enough already, especially if you've toyed with him long enough for him to summon a 2nd Heresiarch ).

I owned Hexne64 for about 4 years and it is my favourite shooter no matter what anyone says on it's graphics compaired to 3d shooters. The mage is my alltime favourite character and I found all the secret levels. Level 13 *Heresiarch's Seminary* and Dark Crucibal (the map with D`Sparils Heart) Those are the best multiplayer maps I seen And this mod makes Hexen even better. I love the experince points thingie. Looooads of fun and I can't wait to try the *Possession* spell as an Ettin and hear those funny noises they make.

Yes, possession spell is a wonder from a very good programmer, who works in the team which made this great mod. Just keep your "real" body hidden, otherwise it will be attacked! I must sya that my favourite player is the Fighter, and now he is much better in the mod. You have to try him. In higher levels, he will become MUCH faster (and I mean the attacks too) and stronger, and all his weapons can be used now without mana, which is trully great when you have the Quietus, his magical sword.

Dark Mage

Cooool. No green fireballs coming out of Quietus now? awesome.. So when I use mana, that is how I get the fireballs out? Coool man. Also. I had a question. While you are possessing anotehr character as the Mage, can I still hit the hotkey (Q) to repeatedly activate my Icon of Defender to keep my Mage body protected? Or is the hotkey disabled once I posses a creature? Also, While I posses a creature, can I *let go* of possession and control my Mage again? Or is that only possible by having my possessed creature Die. Like I may see a person go the direction of my Mage body but I want to -release- the possessed creature and control my Mage again to defend it... Any answers? While possessing a monster, you don't have access to your inventory, your spells, or your weapons, as this is all tied to your human body. You can exit from this body any time by hitting, I think, the Enter key (not 100% sure, just try some other keys if it's not the one). You'll instantly snap back to your human body, and the de-possessed monster will roar its defiance and charge you like hell...

Also, I noticed that the Mage has such a LOW health. You can die pretty much alot of times with 1 or 2 fireballs hitting you if you aren't alert. And the *mouse look* is sweeet. I love the lighting effects And the pixels are all gone ont the trees. walls. bricks etc. But. I've seen screenshots of anotehr mod where Hexen 2 creatures are brought into the Hexen game.. Lemme find the link again... oh no.. wait. just remembered that the mod is not done yet.. If the maps are made well, Carnage Galore III will be very cool too. And about the Fighter's weapons: no, you don't need to wait for the mana to run out. You can just hit the weapon's number twice (one time to select it, and another time then), and the "without mana" version will be activated.

CG3 maps are well-made, as I already had the chance to confirm... those 3 or so maps I tested some months back were real cool, especially the swamp part of the Crossroads map delivered that in-your-face Hexen feeling I haven't experienced for years...

Swamp areas are nice, and there will be a lot more in later episodes, but what you find in the Crossroads is about it for open swamps for the first episode. Map 3 is a town in the middle of that swamp, but it's all inside. The kind of maps I like are the dark and gloomy areas, like dungeons, sewers (like Cloaca), or maybe mine tunnels. Dark, spooky places where no one has been for what seems like a few hundred years, never knowing what's around that next corner... There will be a lot of that in map 6. And as for the testing, I was considering letting a couple of people try it, since I finished all except for maps 5 and 6, but I can't do anything from this computer at work right now.

There's also a enemy or two from Heretic as well. And as for the Tome of Power, I have no idea why they left it out in Hexen. Hexen (and Deathkings) would have been so much more fun if it was included. Also, if they had included it, then the Korax mods would have had it as well, since they didn't add or remove any artifacts. Just imagine blasting Korax with a powered up Quietus...

Ok, I just loaded the latest version of the game onto the site. Maps 1 - 4 are done (well, map 2 still needs the exit to map 5). All the puzzle scripts have been added, so you can play the game all the way up to opening the way to map 5. The addresses are: http://fury.ravencommunity.net/game/fury.zip and http://fury.ravencommunity.net/game/furydata.zip. Just put everything in the Hexen directory, and use the fury.bat file to start the game. First it will use DeuSF to merge furydata.wad into the main iwad, then after you're done playing, it will restore the original hexen.wad. These files won't be here for very long, since I'm not done, although this is where they may be when it's released. [ April 09, 2002: Message edited by: Ichor ]</p>

If it makes anyone feel better, Tome of Power is planned for Korax Arena. Psst... Something even better, I've been planning a Hexen mod called "Heresy Mod" where you play the original Hexen maps but with the weapons (and partially the artifacts) of Heretic. Some of this is even implemented in the KMOD2 codebase and wadfile, it's just disabled. Check out this screenshot, I took it half a year ago on a pre-release version of KMOD2. I just want to stop work on KMOD2 (which will happen after the 2.2. patch somewhen this month) before starting anything else. It's even likely that work on Heresy Mod won't start before Scattered Evil is out, mainly because I think this mod is simply not worth delaying Scattered Evil even a week (and doing this mod right might mean a delay of a month or more). Also, I want it to run with Vavoom (and if possible, with DOS Hexen) as well, not only with jHexen. That means even more work. As I type this, I even ponder not posting it at all...
