Each port has it's advantages and disadvantages , I guess it depends what you want to do with it.

IMHO...ZDoom sucks ass, the new Doomsday is going to rule, Vavoom is so so, it doesnt have as many features as Doomsday.

It's not clear what the engine is for - if modding, you can throw Doomsday in the trash bin. If it's only playing the original DOOM, Doomsday looks nice.

Personally Zdoom is currently my favorite, but I have no doubt in my mind that i'm biased due to the many crashes Doomsday has given me. Personally, I think they're all equal, just base it on what your doing with it. I personally like ZDoom simply because it's the first i've found and seems easiest to mod with, but I've played Doomsday more than a few times. I'll probably use it more when the 'new' Doomsday Valherran speaks of comes out. By the way, not to flame, but Valherran, I notice your comment on Zdoom is rather... how to put this... unintelligent. I can understand you not liking Zdoom, but calling it names just takes you down a notch on how I base your intelligence. I needed to let that out. No offense, of course.

If you're gonna do modding, go with Vavoom. If you just want to play go with Doomsday. I use Doomsday to play because I can't run Vavoom smoothly, but I couldn't get to run the latest version, the only one I could download, because it keeps bitching about a missing DLL. I found an old JHeretic somewhere and I use that. Vavoom, in contrast, has little or no bs to fix.

Anyway, as for myself I haven't played ZDoom, but I've tried played Doomsday and it seems fine for me just for playing on it...yeah I haven't said anything new here, have I? LOL. If you must choose between the two, go with ZDoom, it seems more powerful anyway. As for Vavoom, my view lies halfway between Valherran and RambOrc. It's by far the most powerful modding source port I've seen, but then again there's tonnes of minor bugs in it that may pass unnoticed in Original Hexen, but are exploited in my Dark Realms maps. Not to mention, based on my experiences, movement is not as smooth in Vavoom as it is in DOS. Takes a slight millisecond longer to register a movement for me, but then again this could be more of a compatibility issue with my hardware than with Vavoom itself.

i'd definitely go with ZDoom, it works better than any other source port i've tried and is good for map testing as well as play, also the ZDoom community just released the best mod i've ever seen for doom i do like Doomsday, especially the resource packs that add models to doom, heretic and hexen, but its bull if your mapping, i tried 4th class's dark realms on it, not good :\ i've never even tried vavoom, except in KA and vavoom doesn't perform well when i play that.

The reason why i dont like ZDoom is because i constantly keep getting tons of errors and it pissed me off to the point where i threw in the garbage because no one would not attempt to fix the problem on their forums, so i said screw it...

hmmm well zdoom and doomsday work fine but vavoom seems to get more crashes and I'm not the guy to pick favorate but I know when a game or thing is not that good and as I've said, vavoom crashes more.

Zdoom's my favorite. I originally played doomsday for all the 3-D effects and stuff, but ZDOOM seems easier to run with and is more netplay-friendly. And I love all the wonderful mapping you can do with ZDOOM/GZOOM features.

I picked zdoom because it is the closest to vanilla doom. I try to find the source port that supports heretic and hexen and is as close to the originals as possible. Of course playing the originals is out of the question because it does not have tcp/ip online lan play.

Zdoom beats all other ports at modding! Gzdoom also has a nice opengl renderer!

Ever since they patched it works ALOT better now, and i am freely able to play MODs on it without any problem.
