Dark Realms (2000-2006)

The 4th Class

Yeah sorry about not being an active participant on this forum for about a year, but school and social life blah blah blah. Anyway, I just thought I'd tell you all the really pointless fact that I still exist, and am alive and well. Also, I've come to tell you all that the Dark Realms project is officially dead. Basically, after about a year of inactivity, combined with a lack of interest in both my part and everybody else', I figured that I'm happy enough with the two hubs that are there now. Maybe once in a while, I'll touch up on them, fix some bugs, improve the scenery, but the chance of any more levels being made is extremely unlikely. In fact, I'm confident that there will never be any new levels for it. Not like any of us care , but I thought that I'd share this with you all. P.S.: I'll still make music for you all, seeing as how I've always been the freelancer of the group. I don't think there's a high demand for me anyway, but if you need any new tunes, I'm right here. Then again, we do have enough music to last us several years.

P.S.S.: Be sure to check the new polls I've set up on the DR website, and write your condolences in the guestbook.

Too bad to hear this, I think it was one of the best works I have seen for Hexen , let's hope that you change your mind soon, heh! .

The 4th Class

We'll see how I feel in the summertime. I got lots of stuff planned then anyway (not to mention I start University this fall! ). At any rate, maybe it's not fair to say the project is "dead." Probably "inactive" would be more appropriate. I'll still touch up on what I have already made now and then, but I just don't see myself making any more levels. Besides, DR is such an ambitious project, that it is impossible to finish it without modifying the source code. And I don't have the talent to do that myself. And since neither Ichor nor Chris has the time to help me with it, I'll probably have to learn the source code myself, but that could take years. Besides, I have no idea where to begin. It's like teaching a baby how to swim by throwing it off the boat into the ocean. P.S.: Magno, I found your comment in the guestbook very moving and heartfelt. Thank you very much: you are most likely my biggest fan. (at least SOMEBODY did it )

Hello Lucas, been ages since we had nice conversations, I will miss a lot having the opportunity to comment and participate a little on your creation, but as I said I'm no role model to anyone regarding these matters, the team knows what I mean. I was planning getting some major work done before making my "comeback" but you make me get out of the shadow naked... Be it, at least you guys know I'm not dead (undead would suit me better). As for the topic here, anyone can know my opinion in the project's website, this is indeed a sad day for Hexen (and me), but nobody can argue your determination and everyone closer to you, like us, know your reasons are totally sincere and understandable. It's really good to hear your going to college, and will be a master soon. Could you say the area you'll study? Just one advice: DON'T go into those traditional ignorance celebrations where old students make newcomers do degrating things in the name of companionship - they'll steal your individuality. Artists like you shouldn't have to go through that, hopefully Canada is more advanced than here and you won't have to even choose. PS: Yes, I like to consider myself a "number one" fan, a diehard one, of Dark Realms. But for that to work I have to hide the fact that I need your walkthrough to advance further in the game!!! Don't get angry, I'm getting old and the reflexes are wearing down - nowadays when I play even Ettins make my life hard.

Ah yes, I've really missed you a lot Magno. You are always such a warm, welcoming person, who just loves every minute of life and knows that, even in the most depressing of times, good will triumph over evil. I really admire you as an artist and as a person, Magno. Anyway, I'm almost hoping that I'll restart the project over the summer, but again, we'll just have to wait and see. Like I've said many times before, I can't finish it myself. In fact, I'm 100% positive that DR is just as big, if not bigger, than the Scattered Evil project. And, to no surprise, they both wound down the same route. And about university. I don't know what the difference is between college and university in Portugal, but here in Canada, university is more academic and theory based, while college is almost exclusively for the trades, and hands-on business. Just thought I'd share that little tidbit. Anyway, my program is called "Joint Bachelor of Arts Honours in Psychology and Linguistics." Right up RambOrc's sleeve. [quote="mago":39soc95j]Just one advice: DON'T go into those traditional ignorance celebrations where old students make newcomers do degrating things in the name of companionship - they'll steal your individuality. Artists like you shouldn't have to go through that, hopefully Canada is more advanced than here and you won't have to even choose. LOL I don't know if they do that in university or college, but we definitely do have that here at high school. I guess it's just a fun thing, but I never was interested in doing that kind of stuff (sometimes is a bit fun to watch though). But if I ever was going to that, which would be unlikely, I'd wait until I was a graduating student. That way everybody already knows me, and I wouldn't be degrading myself to make friends or get attention; I'd be doing it because I'm so overcome with the joy of leaving school once and for all. But you are right, there are more intelligent ways to make friends. O yes, and I DO plan to finish the walkthrough, but I have no idea when that'll be finished, let alone resumed.

(at least SOMEBODY did it Razz)
hehe if you'd put the link in your post it might have beaten my lazyness of looking for it and posting btw, once, when i learned enough about programming to do some real stuff, i had the idea of joining as programmer. That disappeared quite fast when i tried to make sense of the source code that is published in the webpage. So well, you reminded me of that and i downloaded vavoom code and reference... So, whenever i happen to have some spare time (university is killing me) and if i ever learn that stuff, i surely help you out with DR... but i guess my chances of doing that are around the same of you retaking the mod

Lucas, is it you under the nick of "4th class"? *Sigh*, that's a shame but I couldn't finish DR. Saying honestly, I grew so tired of narrow labyrinths, that I decided to stop. Too bad, because I wanted to check the puzzle on the last level very much (the one with "moving" tiles).

Well I already revolutionized the Underworld with more ornate walls, so who says I wouldn't be able to do it again?
