Wad problems

I'm having a roblem to merge a group of sprites I made to replace the mage's one (just for testing the looks).Wintex don't support Hexen officially, so I think it isn't possible through this program... Maybe the wad I made isn't compatible with Hexen's wad, and everytime I try to implement it, I can't run the game. Is there any other program which could do that (I mean, merge the sprites wad with the hexen's wad)? Please help!

WinTex does support Hexen, I have version 4.7 and I have no problems. What WinTex doesn't allow to do is modifying IWAD files. But to replace sprites you don't need to modefy hexen.wad. Simply put your sprites in a new wad, put a SS_START at the beginning and SS_END at the end and it should work.

How? Put the wad where? Please be more clear...

I mean markers, SS_START marker at the begining of the wad adn SS_END at the end. In Korax Mod look how sprites are added in files rsword.wad and money.wad.

Maybe this will help. This is how I replace the sprites in my game. First, I make a new wadfile and put in the pictures of the sprites with the same name as the sprites I want to replace. For instance, STFFA0 is the picture of that stick used for the first weapon before you pick up the gauntlets. I want to use something else. I create a new wadfile (or use one you're already working on). Then I put in the new sprite with the name STFFA0. Once you're done (and you save it of course), you'd think that all you need to do is to simply play the new sprites with 'heretic -file filename.wad', but that doesn't work. Before the new sprites can work, you need to use DeuSF to merge the wadfile with the iwad (deusf -merge filename.wad). Then simply play Heretic with no '-file' and every time you use the staff, the new sprite will show up instead of the old one. 'deusf -restore' returns it back to normal. This must be done with the flats (floors and ceilings). Doom, Doom 2, and Hexen work the same way.

But the markers aren't put in the Iwad by the wintex when we first create it? The problem is to play the new iwad, replacing the sprites for the new ones made by me. It's boring... I think I'll read wintex help again. I must be doing something wrong. Thanks a lot.

Then if I understood right, I would have to merge the Pwad into the Iwad, but that didn't work for me. Anyway, I'll try, and by the way, do you know how to implement sprites to the wadauthor's thigs list? I wanted to try some new sprites, but I can't load them when I try to make a map just for the test.

As long as you use only one external wad file, you don't have to merge it, just use the -file option in the command line (make a shortcut in Winblows and add the option to it). As for how to insert into WadAuthor, I've described it in this forum in one of the topics, but can't say in which one.

Where? Where? It was an old post?

Basically, you have to edit the hexen.wcf file, entries you add there with the right syntax at the right place will appear in WadAuthor's menus. For questions regarding this file, you better ask Camper becuz I myself don't know exactly where and what.

I did. I'm just waiting for his answer. By the way, I don't mean to be rude, but are we (me you and Janis) the only members left alive in this forum?

Camper isn't a talkative person and there isn't anybody else active on the Korax team, if that's what you wanted to know... Dunno what's up with Ichor, maybe connection probs or workload once again, he's supposed to release the 1st episode of his TC this month AFAIR. As for other team members, the only really active ones where Tzar Sectus and Kendrome, both of which have disappeared. The good news is that Camper told me yesterday he wants to fix all listed and still existing bugs of KMOD2, I was really astonished. If he really does that for KMOD 2.2, it'll mean a better working base for SE.

Sorry about the delay. That changeover to the new service that was supposed to occur back in December happened only a few days ago. Also, real life and some odd mapmaking form of writer's block didn't help much either. Once I get through map 3, I shouldn't have much of a problem with 5, and even less with 6. As for when the first episode (hub, chapter, or whatever you want to call it) will be done, I'm trying for sometime this month. Although I want to get this done as soon as possible, I don't want to get sloppy if I rush things too much.

A couple of weeks surely won't matter much as of release date, and quantity rules all. BTW if you feel like it'd be too much stress to move the CG3 site from the old to the new server by the end of this month, just drop me a mail and I'll do it for you (the server I'm posting this currently will be disabled early April).

I think you mean quality, not quantity, heheh. Anyway, I guess I just haven't gotten around to moving my site yet. I don't think it should be that much of a problem to move it over to the new server.

To make it even easier, I zipped it up for you, just download this and once you extract it you'll only need to upload it on the new location.
