The reason this time...

Well I didn't even really wanted to mention it as I'm perfectly aware that with me, excuses are way to common, but since at least 2 people tried to use the koraxdev FTP this far, I thought I'll give a quick update: Last weekend, the main HDD of the server was found faulty and so the server had to be re-setup and everything restored from backup - make that nearly everything, i.e. user accounts I had to re-create manually --- and this is where koraxdev comes into the picture, that one was a special thingie already before and currently it isn't working. I'm going to give it another shot in the near future, hope it'll work then. I'll post an update once it's working. Oh yes, a related question: earlier on, a Java File Manager was also available for koraxdev, if anyone has used it then post here, as there are no other users left on the machine who'd need it (it was set up for hosted sites in Spring 2002, but all of them have been moved to another server ages ago). If nobody needs it, I won't reinstall that. p.s. Either the shutdown/backup or the restore process is also the cause of some threads acting strange (like the Alpha requirements thread), i.e. not showing the latest upgrade in the overview.

That's the reason of why I couldn't be able to post anything?? Uff! If I could knew this before it would be much less problem for me to solve, I have been moving all the IE options to see if the problem was there, but this make my life easier again!! <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> Thanks! Keep us updated on that!

I used the File manager but only to upload files so I could just get a new FTP client. Oh and like FireBrand said keep us updated.

As a programmer you are supposed to discared GUI progs anyway and use geek tools like command line ftp instead. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> That isn't even just a joke, in most Win9x/NT versions you can just open the command shell, type "ftp ravengames.com", put username and pw when asked, and you can start transferring files (you should go to the right local directory on your comp before starting FTP). You can upload with "put filename", download with "get filename", delete with "dele filename" and break connection with "bye". <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

That's cool, I didn't know that. And I didn't use file manager since I'm more confortable with FAR.

I don't know FAR, I'm using CuteFTP Pro which is very nice but unless you have as much FTPing going on as I do, you probably won't want to spend 60 bucks on an FTP client. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

FAR is a tex-mode file manager similar to Norton/Volkov, but for Windows. Homepage is here.

I have the feeling you're talking about something else than I do... what I mean is an online Java applet that looks like this.

dj_jl

Yes, it's something different.

Hey, there's still some problems with forums. IE still crashes a lots, and when I just posted, some strange things happened again. Are you sure that forum's software isn't broken?

I don't know... I haven't seen anything special since then, although I've been browsing the forums from 2 or 3 different machines with different browsers, including IE6 here at work. What about emptying your browser cache incl. all cookies and offline data, then restarting the whole Winblows crap? It might be something as simple as that - or something more complicated, like a proxy server between you and the webserver. A good test occasion is to now go to <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ravenforums.com">http://www.ravenforums.com</a><!-- w --> and see whether you see the old or the new images (I changed nearly the whole image set yesterday).

I cleared all the cache, etc, but it did crash again. BTW I have IE5. Oh, and I haven't been on RavenForums for a while so I don't know what the old images loked like.

An upgrade to IE6 might help, especially if it's 5.0 and not 5.5 you're currently using. As for the images on RavenForums, they're bluish now and look cool in the theme, whereas before they were white (from the original set) and looked out-of-place.

BTW if you have any say what's runnin on that machine, from my personal experience Mozilla 1.3 is the most stable browser I've seen this far - and that's a long list (IE 3.0, 4.0, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, Netscape 4.0.x, 4.5.x, 4.7.x, Mozilla 0.9.x, 1.0, 1.3). It's maybe 10-15 megs for install.

dj_jl

Yeah, it's IE5.0. I just managed to install Netscape 7.0 without admin rights, hopefully it will be more stable.

I just tried to post on alpha test topic and it failed with "Failed to send email" error, period. No problems in this topic. Here's my message: I checked this wad. There's still some problems with balance and other stuff. I also noticed that there some maps are missing. Some maps can be found on koraxdev/maps/converted and than there's final two maps converted here.

Just posted a test topic and it was working fine: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.korax-heritage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1154">http://www.korax-heritage.com/forums/vi ... php?t=1154</a><!-- m --> The failed send e-mail means most probably that a) you have auto e-mail notification turned on in your profile and b) that this webserver is unable to establish connection to the navigators.lv mailserver (or that server tells that your addy there doesn't exist).

dj_jl

It doesn't seem it's a problem with mail server, because it does happen only on that topic, it's working OK with this and with test topic. Can you post a reply on the alpha test topic?
Sat, 17 May 2003 08:43:09

RambOrc

Which alpha test topic? the old or the new?
Mon, 19 May 2003 06:29:13

dj_jl

The new one.

It didn't work for me neither... when I hit "reply", below in the iframe I see all the posts alright, but if I try to watch the topic normally, they aren't there. Meaning the posts themselves are in the DB, but somewhere else they aren't registered to be part of that thread. Well I'll start still another alpha thread and we'll see what happens... <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

The third part of KMOD 2.5 topic also isn't working having only 2 replies, while this topic with a lots of replies still seems to work fine.

If I had time, I would try my luck on the phpBB support forums - though I'm not sure anyone has a cure for data corruption caused by faulty hard drive. <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->

Another interesting thing is that if you go to the "new posts since last visit" option on the main forum page, you always see all updated topics, even if the displayed name and post date for the latest post an old one is.
