Strife?

I know Strife plays quite a bit differently from the others, but do you have any plans to add the Strife guy in? I mean, you have the Witchaven guy, and that's not even a Doom engine game! I'd love to pump some poison bolts into that Cleric.

As of now, the Strife guy would be our "substitute" for the DOOM marine, in case Id software for some reason gets anal about us using their trademark. More of a legal issue than anything else.

Ah. Well as cool as ID has been about modding and stuff, I don't think that'll be a problem. Still, good to have your bases covered!

id is not half as cool as you think... if you dig around the 'net, you could find many cases of id's lawyers sending "cease and desist" letters to modders.

Well, they have the right to defend their trademark and creative works. I did suggest the use of FreeDOOM's assets, but was rejected ._.

[quote="CheapAlert":mksx8euj]Well, they have the right to defend their trademark and creative works. True from the point of view of law, but still seems quite a bullshit to me, since they have a choice to or not to use this "right". I have always thought this is some kind of exaggerrated jealousy; they do not loose anything because of modders using their stuff, otoh they gain more popularity and fan love from this. I cannot imagine I'd do something like this if I were on their place, if not my stuff is used for commercial purpose without proper license, ofcourse, or in some nasty projects, like, I dunno, nazi propaganda using Doom2 nazi trooper graphics.

Problem with id was that they went after ppl who e.g. used Quake II to rebuild Quake I maps. This is the complete opposite of the Raven Software official mod policy, which says that as long as it's all from Raven games, you are free to do what you want (at least this was the policy 5 years ago when I last asked).

I think a friend once told me about a doom mod where the final battle was against the führer. In addition, a room from a doom map (from chapter 1 I think) is shaped like a square with a svastic (yeah, I don't know how to spell it) cross.

Errmm... so? Sorry, I just didn't get your point. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

[quote="RambOrc":214rudyj]Problem with id was that they went after ppl who e.g. used Quake II to rebuild Quake I maps. If you're referring to Generations Q2, that's because they did directly violate the EULA by simply porting the levels with one of those Q1>Q2 commandline .bsp tools. They were not 'rebuilt'. The lighting data and other things were exactly the same.
