Crimson Wizard

Again, maybe it is too early to tell all that, and I cannot be sure I shall fullfill everything, but since we have a writer here, who is going to write story(-ies) for us about main quest and sidequests as well, maybe, I want to mention several concepts I have for maps; some I have started making, others are still just a design on paper. Anyway, I am giving the here, in case some may be used in a main story or sideplot. ================================== = Brotherhood of Asp. ================================== (In case there's some misunderstanding, asp here - is a venomous snake, a viper ) That is an earliest concept I have, and I've already done one map in brotherhood's style, only for Korax Arena. Quote: It was long ago when an elder wyverness made her nest in the conduit of an active volcano. Decades later a group of worshipping fanatics, who named themselves 'Brotherhood of Asp', moved in and constructed a concealed temple, using magic barriers to prevent magma from flooding their dwelling. Whyverness here canbe either "normal" dragoness or undead, similar to death wyvern in Hexen, but larger and more powerful. According to my concept those guys, the brotherhood, are paying sacrifices to their goddess, and in return have an allowance to use some of her siblings for breeding experiments (yep ). Thus they can be some kind of source for a number of new serpent/dragon-type monsters. Screenshots from KA map "House of Asp" (SE ones will have similar style): [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/karena/shots/asp_unfinished_01.jpg[/img:37rszayw] [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/karena/shots/asp_unfinished_02.jpg[/img:37rszayw] [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/karena/shots/asp_finished_08.jpg[/img:37rszayw] [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/karena/shots/asp_finished_09.jpg[/img:37rszayw] ================================== = Hill Town. ================================== I have no idea what to use this one for (in terms of plot); it is just a map of small town on the hills or mountains that I started. Here are couple of screenshots (keep in mind, map is far from accomplishement): [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/temp/spiral_shot002.jpg[/img:37rszayw] [img:37rszayw]http://downloads.orcishweb.com/koraxdev/crimson/temp/spiral_shot004.jpg[/img:37rszayw] ================================== = The Witch plot ================================== Just an idea for the plot. Somewhere in the barrens there's a lone village, some closed community or something. People gone missing recently, and villagers blame the witch. In the end, player locates her house far in the desert area, and finds out the witch were performing rituals to get power and revenge her banishment from that village; but she did something wrong and opened a portal to Afterlife, or Netherworld or something, and some kind of powerful creature posessed her soul and now sends his minions through the portal to explore the nearby area in search for more mortals to posess. ================================== = Barrow Hills ================================== There's a map I started, which was supposed to be the first in a sequence of few maps; this map is included into our KRPG internal releases as "gardens.wad" (don't remember why I called it gardens), MAP01. Unfortunately I do not have any decent screenshots of it yet. Basically, it is some place in the hills where are barrows stand (ceremonial hills over someone tombs). It is supposed to be a large hill forest with 2 or 3 such barrows; each of them has a passage to underlying tomb that could be opened somehow. The area is infested by undead, and also groups of Dark Bishops with supporting creatures, that come here to awake those that lie in these tombs.

Have you decided yet whether you want to use Hill Town as a town map or a combat map?

Ugh, I feel shame, but I tend to forget this, and question appears every time I see others game work with using of advanced textures (like this newly release project: http://vavoom-engine.com/forums/viewtop ... =10&p=7164) I know it was said we may use Heretic, Hexen, Hexen2 & Heretic2 textures in KA; and that we may use textures from KA in SE, only those that look like "purely medieval". I also remember it was said something like we shouldn't use "obvious" heretic-style material in SE. What about Hexen2? I mean those textures that are medieval and not "egyptian" or "mayan" (or "aztec"?); and also Heretic2 - can we take textures from there?

A few Hexen II and Heretic II textures are fine, just not too many and only those that fit the theme. Indeed a bunch of Heretic II textures have been saved in one of the kdev folders by me years ago for SE (e.g. the rail tracks for the abandoned mines), and some textures are already in use (some of the window styles are Heretic II conversions).

Does anyone know how to convert Heretic 2 textures (*.m8) into something more usable, like bmp or png or anything? I downloaded a toolkit from Ravengames, but so far I managed to unpack and view those textures.

I used Game File Explorer (GFE) to save data from the H2 games.

IIRC, there was another program to convert .m8 textures to TGA, which can be opened by image editors and converted to BMP or PNG .

Before I left my post at RavenGames GFE was hosted there so I knew the guy who programmed it.
