This guy is probably my favourite bassist of all time.

Well, I'm no Dream Theather fan, but it does sound very good... As a matter of fact, I always thought Nirvana, as a whole, came up with some incredible compositions and Krist Novoselic (the bass player) is probably underrated as an artist. Simply the dense feel they had, the way it dinamically attached itself to the vocals (helping Cobain to shout some word, etc)... Maybe that's because Nirvana probably is my all time "foreign" favourite band, even though I hardly listen to it nowadays, so Ill naturally regard their music as genious, in my taste... But before you censor me, no I'm not one of those dudes who bought dozens of Kurt Cobain biographies, read his diary without so much of his permission (he is dead, he wouldn't mind right?) and pretty much representing everything he hated about fans. No, I just listen to the musics, I don't even have all the records, but I sure chew on each music to the limit, I try to pay attention, that's how I want to be a "fan". If you need some reference, listen to "Dive" and "Serve the Servants", I consider those musics to be extremely well balanced IMHO, but I could be terribly wrong, hat the hell do I know about music??? PS: Watch out because Dive is pretty early in their career and the original sounds very sinthetic. I much prefer the live version I got in a DVD of them, with all-live performances... Now that I think of it, another pretty known bass player is Flea, from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but everybody knows that guy, he's just crazy as hell. Since I don't know the differance between a vrey good bass player and a genious one, I'll have to wait on you musician guys to throw some opinions (Lucas and RambOrc).

LOL That is the first time ever that I heard someone call Nirvana foreign. And personally I'm not a huge fan of Nirvana, though they were definitely way more innovative than some crap bands today. IMPO, almost all of today's Canadian mainstream bands are pathetic: Our Lady Peace, Nickelback, Theory Of A Deadman, Default, Three Days Grace, they all sound exactly the same! All the best Canadian bands are from 70's, like Rush (especiialy Rush!) and The Guess Who. Though that reminds: it's a shame that outside of the Commonwealth, no other foreign band gets any airplay in North America. That's when you have to go into the underground scene, especially heavy metal, where you can get a wide range of musicians from all over the world, like Germany, Scandinavia, China, even Brazil has some crazy ones. As for Chili Peppers, yes I do like them. They definitely have a unique sound, and every member stands out (but the singer can get a bit sloppy at times). And they use some of the most unorthodox chord progressions, and believe me, if you can do that AND get heard on FM radio, then you deserve to be appreciated. Especially in metropolitan NA, you're guaranteed sex if you play their songs well. [quote="mago":1roykxx1]Since I don't know the differance between a very good bass player and a genious one, I'll have to wait on you musician guys to throw some opinions (Lucas and RambOrc). IMO, genius musicians don't show off their talents - they blend them in with the overall music. Maybe that's why not very many people like Dream Theater, because every one of them shows off.

That's kind of a stupid thing considering that most of the big names of heavy metal are from Europe, most of them from the UK (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mot?rhead, Slayer etc) and Germany (Running Wild, Helloween, Accept, Sodom, Destruction etc).

[quote="RambOrc":237sl4tj]That's kind of a stupid thing considering that most of the big names of heavy metal are from Europe, most of them from the UK (Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mot?rhead, Slayer etc) and Germany (Running Wild, Helloween, Accept, Sodom, Destruction etc). I'm talking about the newer "melodic black metal" bands like Opeth, Archenemy, Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, Emperor, that kinda stuff. Sweden and Norway are huge mother countries of death metal and black metal. And don't forget that about a third of all the best metal bands come from the States. [quote="Crimson Wizard":237sl4tj]Heh, Lucas, can you write a music to lay my small poem on? Crimson Wizard

Knight's Clay The clash of steel and scream of iron mail, The mind is captured by net of the bloodlust, One shall succeed and make his rivals vail, Another one will fail and bite the dust. The clash of steel - and jeerful cry in air, The rival shrieks in horror and falls from horse. But do not give him hand of help; beware! Slay enemy by sword, have no remorse! Because you grant him life today And let him off, but then - who knows? - He might will come to you another day, And then you won't survive his mighty blows. The Destiny is yet to us unknown, And no one can firmly say when he Will pass away and leave his friends alone, And whose tomorrow the death will be.

From the Barrow Hills From the Barrow Hills together we rose Called by the Conjurer, under willful dictate, Shedding dark soil's bounding weight, Stood we up - horrible army of blight, Ready to serve and ready to fight Without fears, doubts and sorrows.

What I mean is I think the poems are good (especially considering English is your second language), but extremely cheesy.

BTW, who here is a Warhammer fan? The new edition is out and they've balanced some of the rules, not to mention the starter set is 33% cheaper.
