Well, I'm no Dream Theather fan, but it does sound very good...
As a matter of fact, I always thought Nirvana, as a whole, came up with some incredible compositions and Krist Novoselic (the bass player) is probably underrated as an artist. Simply the dense feel they had, the way it dinamically attached itself to the vocals (helping Cobain to shout some word, etc)...
Maybe that's because Nirvana probably is my all time "foreign" favourite band, even though I hardly listen to it nowadays, so Ill naturally regard their music as genious, in my taste... But before you censor me, no I'm not one of those dudes who bought dozens of Kurt Cobain biographies, read his diary without so much of his permission (he is dead, he wouldn't mind right?) and pretty much representing everything he hated about fans. No, I just listen to the musics, I don't even have all the records, but I sure chew on each music to the limit, I try to pay attention, that's how I want to be a "fan".
If you need some reference, listen to "Dive" and "Serve the Servants", I consider those musics to be extremely well balanced IMHO, but I could be terribly wrong, hat the hell do I know about music???
PS: Watch out because Dive is pretty early in their career and the original sounds very sinthetic. I much prefer the live version I got in a DVD of them, with all-live performances...
Now that I think of it, another pretty known bass player is Flea, from Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but everybody knows that guy, he's just crazy as hell. Since I don't know the differance between a vrey good bass player and a genious one, I'll have to wait on you musician guys to throw some opinions (Lucas and RambOrc).
