Korax Mod Questions, Again!

Okay, I've played Korax Mod up to the Castle of Grief, with it going at about 1-6 FPS... I was wondering that if in any Later Version of Korax' Mod 3.x or something, you could lower the Direct3D Minimum requirements down to 7 or something.. Anything but 8, 9, or more. Because my computer only supports D3d up to 7, so I can't play any 8 or 9+. Then I might play it more.

Yes. Okay, I have an old computer.. Only 1 of our computers has XP, the rest is 95. BTW I actually have 98

Doomsday engine should run on almost all video cards, can you open dxdiag on it and tell me what sucker it has? I'm curious. Also Doomsday, well the version used for Kmod is mid-2000-ish, before DX8, so I dunno if that could be the prob

What do you mean, what sucker?

I'm referring to that video card. Sorry if my slang gets you lost

Okay, I'm not sure if this is the video card or not but I think it might be: 1772E on ATI 3D Rage Pro

Ouch! Sounds like a really old card, I have a Rage Pro II and that runs slow on Incoming and GLQuake on a k6 500, even when you're just looking at the rather bland sky. I hate to say this but you're gonna have to replace that sucking sucker

[quote="CheapAlert":29m6kgxu]Doomsday engine should run on almost all video cards In my experience, it's rather the only way around. I have yet to see the non-nVidia card that runs jHexen 0.9x without probs and fast enough. jHexen 0.98.x was running on even 3Dfx cards for me, 9.99.x OTOH not any more. It was still running OK on Matrox cards but not very well. And jHexen 1.0.x was crashing for me even on nVidia cards. And none of these versions ever worked with ATI cards. Mind you, I talk about cards from 1999-2001 and these are just my personal experiences (and a couple of other guys').

Odd, Doomsday 1.710+ works on Voodoo2's last time I tested on my p100, hmmm...... I know it works on my Trident Cyberblade3d i7 8mb in Direct3D on my now dead k6 433 laptop, smooth, with smooth cam movement on even! As for that card of yours, it's pretty obsolete IMO , how does it run with other games? If you got AvP, Incoming, GLquake or other old games, give em a try.

So your not going to lower the minimum Direct3D requirements?

I have yet to see the non-nVidia card that runs jHexen 0.9x without probs and fast enough. It runs well enough for me, with an S3 Graphics ProSavage DDR. (although this may not count if you're talking about older cards)

[quote="Stryker":34f9ierr]So your not going to lower the minimum Direct3D requirements? Not on KMOD 1-3 because it's on an engine we'll never touch because it's not worth the trouble. OTOH the possibility of a KMOD 4 on Vavoom is not zero (but it won't be anytime soon), and Vavoom runs in software mode too, meaning you can have just about any graphics card in the world and it should still work if your CPU is fast enough.

A Radeon9000 will do you good all over. Surprised you managed to survive at 5 fps far into the game though, i couldn't stand Korax Arena around 15fpsish

If I can't get a minimum of a steady 25-30 fps in a game, I don't play it...

Anyways, you can forget about it.. I figured out how I can play KMod in direct3d mode, without getting a new Computer, or even Video Card.
Mon, 10 May 2004 21:19:00

Ichor

Good. Then you should be able to play Fury as well, since it uses the same JHexen version.
Mon, 10 May 2004 21:39:14

leilei

But as for KA I don't know
Mon, 10 May 2004 21:42:29

Stryker

I've been playing that! Its great! Anyways, thats how I got to trying to figure out the Kmod.. But did you lower the D3D reqiurments on Fury Chapter 2?
Mon, 10 May 2004 22:26:05

Ichor

No. I never touched the code (I couldn't compile doomsday.exe anyway).
Tue, 11 May 2004 00:51:57

Stryker

Theres one problem, when playing in D3d mode, There is absolutly NO translucency in it! So I have to edit the Mapinfo Lump to get rid of Fog or it'll be completly Grey-ish (The Screen). This happens on both Kmod and Fury.. It also happens with the fighters berserker Spell, so I'm limited on using that now.. Anyways I use the mage now!

You get black shite behind sprites? Now that reminds me of the good ol PowerVR PCX2 on DirectX6+ games
Tue, 11 May 2004 12:57:15

Stryker

Nope.. Nothing like that, I get that in Vavoom's D3d.
Wed, 19 May 2004 13:09:46

Stryker

Of course I only get the black stuff If I don't turn on a Certain setting, Anyways, heres a bug that has been bothering me and stopping me from using and such flame weapons (I know other people have mentioned this bug already, but to me It can really ruin gamplay), When a monster dies from a flame attack, the Body is absoluetly Solid, and not to mention the Dark Bishops burnt body seems to rather, Float. And also, I've notice you guy haven't really completed the Heresiarches Damage Skins, theres 1 frame unmodified.

Moose, are you on this?

I'll get onto it.

You can forget all about it now! I've updated my Driver, but am still using the same Card.. I now have OpenGL and Direct3d 8 support. Kmod runs nicely on OpenGL and Direct3D Mode.. Though for me, OGL Has afew Texture errors but that doesn't bother me. Vavoom now works great with Direct3d, I didn't try OpenGL though.. But the only bad part is most other OGL Ports (ZdoomGL, DoomGL, Edge's OGL Exe..) Doesn't work really good.. DoomGL works, but it goes a bit slow, ZdoomGL and Edge freeze up, and the worst part is, Most newer Versions of Doomsday don't even work, OGL or not! Then again, that doesn't matter, I Mainly play with Vavoom and KMod now. (Now I don't care if you change the D3D Settings or not... JUST PLEASE DON'T CHANGE IT TO 9! )

I doubt it'd ever will use D3d9, it's unneccesary and would need so much effort for so little, like some pixel-shader engine we don't need and will never use. My 1999 laptop's card can support D3d9 though and it could run Farcry /me does a taunting better-than-thou dance
