Korax Mod (a mini-mod for it) and bug or feature, can't tell

okay, well, i thought it was cool that you can warp to earlier levels and have monsters respawn, so, i decided to add this, cause it's kind of cool, but it would be boring / pointless / not challenging at all to do on skill levels 1, 2, or 3. So, do it on skill levels 4 or 5. After you kill korax, type in warp 01 or whatever you type in to warp to the first level... i think that's it... you keep all your weapons and stuff, and take this as backstory... "Right before Korax's spirits dissipate, using the last bit of strength they had, they teleported you to Winnowing Hall... As you look around, you begin to wonder how the minions of Korax have grown in strength so fast... you look around, and even the monastery looks untouched, but you remember smashing the windows.. what is going on? Do you have to face every one of Korax's minions again? The Death Wyvern..? The Heresiarchs..? Your ancestors..?" Explanation... Korax had one last trick up his sleeve, a newly-learned spell of banishment through time... he sent you back ten years in time, before you did anything, before he learned any such spells... Yeah, i think this is fun playing the game from the beginning with everything from before, kinda like new game + in FFX, but it wouldn't be worth it if the game was too easy... just so it's a little bit more easy, and just fun... and you can get char levels higher... And, i don't know if this is a bug or feature (it's too good to be a feature???) In the first secret level, hexen.wad version 1.0 or 1.1, doesn't matter, did them both... whence you pick up the heart of... D'Sparil, is it? You automatically gain 5 levels, but without gaining the experience... what's up with that? Also, i've checked, you can do this as many times as you want through the game, so if you warp 06 or whatever the secret level is, take the heart, warp 07, then warp 06 (rinse and repeat) you can, if possible, max out your character.

Well, considering warping IS a cheat, it's not like there could be any protection against cheating, because they are there specifically to give the players the advantage they want. Maybe we should indeed fix the Heart thing, because that would be an extremely easy way to skip your way through the levels, but I don't know, the whle point in cheats is letting the players do what they want just for fun... As for the item: yes, according to RambOrc, the Heart of D'Sparil gives you 3 levels on hard, 4 on medium and 5 on easy. Why? It's common practise in RPGs to award highly a player when he gets ahold of extremely important or powerful items. I guess the same could be done in this particular situation, since it's also somewhat difficult to get to this secret level, so the value of getting it becomes even higher. The reward is also a very nice motivation tool contrasting with the relatively slow process of gaining levels by killing monsters. As for your suggestion: I can't really tell... I lot of arcade games did just what you said, back in the day, since you didn't really lost your lives when you beat the game, to make you coins worth, the game would start again with harder enemies, or at least give you a bonus stage (see Vendetta for example), others would unlock even harder difficulty settings (like Streets of Rage 2 for Genesis, if you beat the game in the hardest level, you would unlock the "Mania" one, which was freaking fun to play!). But the problem is messing with the original sequence... Guess we'll have to wait for the others' opinion, but even though I don't dislike the idea, I can tell right now that carrying all the stuff, having all weapons and the exp, even with harder mosnters, would make you cruise easily at least half the maps...

Starting the whole game from the beginning in toupher mode? I am absolutely against this idea. Arcade features are for arcade games, Korax RPG Trilogy is what it's named - RPG.

The purpose of the KMOD3 SDK (which will released once KMOD 3.0 final is released) is exactly so that people can take KMOD and add such small features themselves to it.

Forgive me my ignorance, but what's KMod SDK?

SDK = Software Developer Kit. There is one half-finished for KMOD 3.0, it'll be released together with KMOD 3 final (don't hold your breath though). It will enable you to create maps with KMOD specific items and similar stuff.

I know what does SDK term mean. I was just wondering what is in there.

[quote="Crimson Wizard":1lcsrmkv]Starting the whole game from the beginning in toupher mode? I am absolutely against this idea. Arcade features are for arcade games, Korax RPG Trilogy is what it's named - RPG. Hmmm... Although true, KMOD isn't exactly an RPG per se - it just adds RPG-like features to an action fantasy game (most notably the posibility to evolve and get better). The botton line would be simple: when you end, you can choose to begin again with the same character and all his characteristics. Again, I'm not saying I would want to do that, but I can easily see why Zakhennahr wants it - as far as KMOD goes, there's no difference between re-playing it from start with a NEW character or with the SAME character you just finisehd with... Anyway, not defending any idea, I wouldn't personally like that because the over-powered character would ruin the challenge at least in the first maps, but it's nice to have some discussions around here!

Hmmm... on second thought... well, ok, this is possibly can be interesting to some people. I even know people who would replay Diablo/Diablo 2 for several times similar way, so why not give Hexen fans a chance to do the same.

Actually this feature should be in KMOD 3 (or even KMOD 2?) in a way, i.e. once you finish Hexen you can continue on to Deathkings with the same character (or was it only planned and never implemented? Can't say).

Wow, i'm gone for a few days and the forum is active... So, let's see, what did i have in mind... yes, i like ramborc's comment that if you want it you can add it / use it but it won't be forced onto you. Choose it if you want. Also, to the last comment by ramborc... well, i might be a little bit sleazy for doing this, but i've loaded KMOGL-DK, and loaded a gamesave from right after killing korax but before beating the game. Typed in warp 01, and bam, addon continue game + button added by the touch of a (albeit cheater) hand. Yes, i must admit, i would be quite bored and annoyed; i already got the weapons and the xp, so why bother doing it again. If i tried a different character class i would, but then i would just keep using that class. Yes, in D2 i've played to level 20 with about 10 chars, so now i just find ways to already start happily ever after (with nez mod of course... regular d2lod is boring)... So, in a way, you CAN continue on to DK with your old character, but, again, by cheating. Also, as a first random comment (i have the best random comment afterwards) it makes you feel better playing through the game with more power, but only if you've beaten it and feel good about beating it... it's like a reward for beating on a hard difficulty level; getting to pound things that were performing sodomy on you in the first level of the game. (pardon the analogy... can't think of any other word as horrible-sounding as sodomize). Aaaaand.... the best misc thing of all day (if you didn't know this already) What does hexen mean? Well,i take german, and my friend, who's screen name starts with hexe explained to me why it does so; hexe means witch in german, and hexen is just the plural of it. Bet ya saw that one coming, didn't you.

RambOrc

No, we never saw it coming, even though the primary language of several people here is German (including me)... Not to mention any native English speaker who has at least a little knowledge of the own language will know that hex is a word in English meaning "cast a spell on", "bewitch". The word "hexed" means "bewitched" and "hexen" could be as little as a little word play on it that doesn't include any foreign language excursions.

My electronic dictionary knows extra word in english: hexenbesen - (Botany) a plant, literal meaning - "witch'es broom".

ehm, lol, i don't know whether to feel dumb that i didn't realise it could be a world play or whether to feel good because i got it right... i guess both... but now, even more happy, for this snes emulator is playing super mario world quite well... AND, this has nothing to do with this topic but i'm too lazy to type it in any other one... emulation has never glitched on nvidia for me, but with ATI... bugs gallore... /end rant. and, checking with dict.cc, hexenbesen does literally mean that, in german. And it has a male ?indefinite? (or is it definite... i can't think) article... /end rant part 2.
