kmod3 job

Looking for someone (or several people) to finish up kmod3 and release it. It's quite obvious I'll never get around doing it and what little time I have I'd rather focus on the Vavoom-based projects. Just sign up here and get your free lifetime membership. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

Well I could work on it, if I'd be able to finish this time is a question and a half. What needs doing, I can't remember all I finished off. Unfortunatally this is before the days of keeping a log.

Yes, with my attention on texturing and most recently with mapmaking, I can't remember exactly what was needed to finish KMOD3. I also want to advance to Vavoom projects, so let's do this as soon as possible! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

Well I would have to dig up the info at the very same place as you (scattered over a bunch of devforum threads). <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> The only thing I remember off-hand is the conversations for the Deathkings shops. I had one idea you are free to use or discard, the mage who was so big-mouthed last time would now grovel and crawl in the dirt, displaying great respect, awe and fear towards the player character who, after all, just busted King Cockroach.

mago

The Mage idea is nice, concentrated players will surely find it fun. But wasn't KMOD 3 supposed to be the previous SE structure (a compilation of selected maps somehow connected to resemble a story line driven gameplay, with the addition of a couple of features (conversation with a few npcs, journal, ...) aimed as a preparation for the real, new SE design (a lot closer to SP)? Or is Kmod 3 the redesign of the original maps to include Vavoom's features?
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:04:15

Moose

No the re-design of all maps is The Chaos Sphere (KMod4 to give it another name) which I must confess I haven't touched for a while.

This time i'll stick to KA, there's a bunch of code that needs completion and there are certain gargoyle sprites that need to be finished <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt="" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: --> , I'll give you an extra hand if it's needed, just ask and I'll come to help you out, heh! <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) --> . And about your question Mago, I think it's KMod 4 the one which will use Vavoom's features AFAIK. Ramborc should investigate and tell you better than me <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> .

Personally I'd hoped Ramborc had forgotten about KMod3, it was really getting me down being stuck with the redundant Doomsday engine. But if it must be done I guess it must.
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:25:59

RambOrc

You mean "retarded", right? As for releasing kmod3, it doesn't need that much work any more, and compared to the LOT of work that has gone into it already, it'd be a very bad decision IMO not to release it, especially as the gamers don't see it the same way we do. Anyway, the "kmod4" stuff was just a temporary name for a couple of days, by the time the concept was more clear, it was already called TCS and it doesn't have much with KMOD in common except for using the original Hexen and DK maps one last time. Anyway, the most important project right now is KA, because it's a LOT closer to being releaseable than SE (I'd say maybe 5-10% of the work for SE 1.0 is done and maybe 70-80% of KA and KA is anyway a much smaller project, maybe not in code but in just about any other part).
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:27:30

mago

Why don't we save the former SE's maps for the new SE? I mean DB is pretty competent in extracting pieces of a map and keeping it's form characteristics intact (tags are lost though). If KMOD3 isn't released, we can still use them, even if only for architectural purpouses. EDIT: Hmm.. nevermind this, I think I'm confusing the projects!
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:33:44

Firebrand

What exactly needs to be finished for KMod 3??
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:39:38

RambOrc

None of the maps that were planned for the original SE were to be part of kmod3. OK I see there is a lot of confusion going on around here, so let's make it simpler for everyone: 1) Kmod3 is nearly finished, the little work it still needs will be done by Moose and he'll release it and nobody else needs to be concerned about it. 2) Korax Arena is a multiplayer-only game that runs with either a Hexen, Heretic or DOOM wadfile and has very little to do with RPG. This is the top project right now, which I'd like to release ASAP (well make that a couple of months at the least). What it needs right now is some more 2D artwork and a LOT of coding. 3) Korax' Heritage, SE, TSP, TCS: basically, it's all the same thing - the very thing we set out to create back in 2000. This is the RPG. To make things more simple, let's not talk about SE, TCS and similar stuff, let's just develop and create stuff for it, it's so very far from release (the 5-10% estimate is overrated I think, it's more like 2-3% I guess) that it doesn't make much sense to distinguish between parts of it. As soon as there is a larger number of good maps and the most important RPG stuff exists in the codebase, at that time it'll be soon enough to get down and define the project closer than it is now (at least I think so).
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:42:35

RambOrc

And to answer Mago's question directly, the maps that were made by other people with the notice "you can use it as base for other maps" and were determined for the first SE draft, anything in there that looks good can of course be used in whatever form for the upcoming RPG.
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:43:32

Moose

well I see Rambo means, ok lets give KMod3 one final push over the cliff and into the users lap. Where you calling yourself a retard? <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> I'm happy after that to work on KA, it's vavoom, he he. And I can't wait to play Critter Hunt. Yes Mago you are getting confused.
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:53:34

RambOrc

You said "redundant" for Doomsday and I thought from the context you meant "retarded", or was I mistaken?
Mon, 20 Dec 2004 22:55:38

RambOrc

BTW Rambo, after having called by this nickname in different circles over the last 10+ years, last month I finally saw the film for the first time. <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) -->

Ahhh... Nice to see more determination on our good code magician - Moose. I remember that time when i couldn't watch any more the Hurt skins frames - and I had to make one herculian effort to finish the last one, the Warrior (thank god Firebrand kept the torch high and finished a lot of enemies too). Once I realized it was a nice feature and only one was missing, I even enjoyed it like the old times. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Moose

Oh silly me <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> , I guess we could use both and call Doomsday a redundant retard. But I believe you still understood what I was trying to get at, Doomsday is outdated and nasty.

The first movie is pretty decent, it were the others that changed Rambo into an action figure...

Yes, the first movie is the best one, the others are just to sell new toys of this character, LOL.

How did you manage that, I thourght you had no television. Mago I know what you mean, but it's even worse for me, I had this same last push a few months ago, with the same project. It just won't leave me alone <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( --> <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> .

Ok fine DVD on PC, hey it's late and I'm tired, you expect logical process to be going on inside my head??
Tue, 21 Dec 2004 20:57:18

What should I say now? That the lateness of the hour doesn't necessarily have to do anything with it? <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->

just read through this and it would appear that all we where waiting for is the Convos for DK. Well that is unless you wanted anything else adding, but I hope now as I'm really out of the swing of things. Anyway whos going to do the convos, I vote not me as my English is poor and my sense of humor even worse <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> .

What the hell, but you come from England Moose... <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P --> I have Hexen's Walkthrough (by the way, i need to talk to RambOrc), so I volunteer to take notes of interesting things the ShopKeeper or someone else in the shops could say to the player concerning the next HUB (or even things he missed on the past HUB), great achievements done by the player, etc... But the exact phrases might be a little strange, since my english is pretty bad.
Tue, 21 Dec 2004 23:10:28

Just because English is my mother toung doesn't mean I'm any good at it, well I'm better than some I guess my my use of creative language is bad, and when I attempt to do so it just sounds silly and confusing

Yes, yes I did. See what I mean.

Right, I've done some maths revision today so I now don't feel bad about working on KMod till the wee hours of tomorrow morning. I've checked the public file server and the latest KMod3Code seems to be up there already, I'll just have to check if people know it's there <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt="" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: --> . I'm putting together what I beieve it my latest build of KMod3 with the correct wad files bat file and all the rest, I'll give it a test run see if it works then I'm hopeing it really is just a case of getting the convos for DK and the updated spell screen.
Wed, 22 Dec 2004 15:25:24

RambOrc

Also, could one of you coders upload the different source codes to SF that aren't there yet?
Wed, 22 Dec 2004 15:30:38

Moose

I can try to add KMod3, I'm too scared to do KMod2.x. I've just noticed that the 'view newest post' links don't work, they still send you to the old address, then again you probably know already.
Wed, 22 Dec 2004 15:58:25

Moose

I think I'll let Janis add KMod3 to the repository, I tryed the way I believed it to work from reading the manual but that doesn't seem to have worked.

[quote="Moose":1utu6ske]I've just noticed that the 'view newest post' links don't work, they still send you to the old address, then again you probably know already. If you mean "View posts since last visit", it's working fine, the prob might be either with your browser cache or with the proxy server if you use one.

I use Mozilla, I've just cleared out my cache and done a Ctrl-F5, I'll see if it still does it when someone next posts.

Nope still doesn't work, just to clarify I mean [img:3hzgynfj]http://kforums.orcishweb.com/templates/Chronicles/images/icon_newest_reply.gif[/img:3hzgynfj], when clicking on that icon thats to the left of a topic when theres new posts.

Might have something to do with the .htaccess file, if I don't forget I'll check into that later on.

That's not the cause, going to look for other things.

Ooo I did manage to add some stuff for KMod3 to the repository, SF was just a little slow on the whole letting me know about it thing. Yay. I'll stick the rest up there in a while.
