Basically, will it work?

Just tried both 3.0 and 2.8. Basically it works, but there are weird graphical glitches like half-transparent sprites.

I must correct myself. There are glitches only if game is run using OpenGL renderer. I cannot be sure if its Vista or my graphic card/driver, or both (I have already met some difficulties running some games with OpenGL renderer under Vista before). If using Direct3d everything works fine, except for some help screens. In fact, what spellbook screen and help screen displays some really screwed image. So I wonder is it my system or they are simply not done yet?

Never used vista yet, don't think i ever will though.

On my XP system I could never get Kmod to run in D3D (always got a D3Init failed error) but it ran fine in OGL. Which was very strange since other games I had with an option to run in either ran fine in D3D but had numerous graphic glitches in OGL or would CTD randomly. Haven't tried in Vista yet, but since you say it will run, I'll see what happens. (BTW, just my opinion of course, but Vista isn't an OS it's a POS; am serously considering exterminating it from my new system and installing XP.)

You should try to remove it from your system, it's a VERY bas OS . As for not being able to run in D3D, try starting the game while pressing the CTRL key, this will show up a window with settings, then try setting the Z-depth buffer to 16-bits (I did never managed to set it to anything else myself , heh!).

I'll try that. Kmod2.8 runs quite well on my Vista system ...in OGL. Gave me the same D3d init error as in XP when I tried D3D.

It's true, but there's some ppl who actually prefer it to OpenGL (not my case ).

I wouldn't mind use D3D, but it screwes all fonts in Vavoom for some reason making them diffcult to read OTOH OpenGL has some issues under Vista on my laptop. Speaking of Vavoom, it cannot draw custom fog properly, it makes it look like separate squares of different fog intensity instead of smooth fog.

That seems to be a limitation on the way your video hardware works, I've seen this myself with old video cards .

That worked, on both my XP system and my Vista system. Graphics aren't quite as good - up close the sprites show the lower color depth - but colors are more vibrant and there seems to be more contrast.
