It has come to that time in my life when I have to think about what I should do after secondary/high school, I would like to become a games programer after I have finished my education but I'm going to need to do 6th form or collage. Now you are possibly thinking why am I saying this? Well I wish to know what subjects would be useful for me to take in order get the job I want. Or any other advice you think will be useful.

Definately it's maths, physics and computer stuff. I got this job because of my programming skills, it was never a question of education, but of course it's not like this everywhere.

just one word of advice. INMO, don't mix job with hobbies. Study another career, and let computer science like a hobbie. You always can study programming by yourself.

Janis - What I guessed, well I should get the grades needed at GCSE to do them at AS and A2 level. Nightwolf - I'm not sure, well your advice is good for several reasons which you probabally know it is your advice afterall but working as a games programmer has been what I have wanted from about the age of 7 and still now it is what I want to do. But OTOH I have recently done work experience with Computacenter as a Computer Engineer for BT and that is anougher option I may like. Time will tell.

I really think that you should study something related to computers, and then you can start thinking how to enter into the videogame world, I always have seen myself programming videogames too , but let me tell you that it's not really easy, as I have been investigating some bit, there are some schools that allow you to study "videogame programming" or "videogame science", but they are really expensive (at least for me they are, heh!). Also you have to think that you may have to travel to USA or Japan (where most of the very known videogame companies are), so you will have to make a lot of work (you first study one career, then make some money to pay your other studies, and finally you can start looking for job into the videogame industy). Of course this is just my point of view.

Some valid points as far as education goes 6th form is free well payed for in taxes here I think actually the government might start paying students about ?30 a week. But yes I would have to pay to get into university but thats over 2 years away so things might change. Moving country is another possible problem, and apparently the UK has growing games dev companys unfortunatally they are mainly java mobile games . But OTOH if the company's going to pay for me to move I'll be ok with it, well possibly.
