Necromancer

John Romero stated on the forums for his website that he wanted to follow up Hexen with a game titled Hecatomb. He of course left id software so Raven just did Hexen 2.

The 4th Class

here's romero's work in whole:
Heretic II. Uh, thanks guys. Heretic, Hexen and Hecatomb would have been the artistically "right" way to preserve the scope and story of the Trilogy of the Serpent Riders. After i left, Hecatomb became Hexen II and series integrity went out the window. The sentence that was originally here was rewritten about 10 times because i'm trying to be Politically Correct in stating my feelings for how the whole series lost its focus and instead is just using its established brandname to sell copies.
I'm sure what Hexen II was supposed to be, would have been a masterpiece. So why did Romero leave?

The 4th Class

Fascinating stuff, I also read somewhere that Romero planned for Hecatomb to have the original 3 classes, but with 3 different moralities (Lawful, Neutral, Evil) for each one, so technically 9 different classes. Makes way more sense than the 4 classes in Hexen 2 anyway. O yeah and there would also have been a Strife-like hub, so all levels are connected in a gigantic hub. But don't worry, Scattered Evil will be way better.

Gotta check into Hecatomb soon then. At any rate, our RPG will be more in keep with the original Hexen than Hexen II was.

This may get a bit off topic but can we expect the next version of KA to be released beforeteh end of the month?

There are a number of small things to fix, so everyone will be happy with the results, we'll have it done... when it's done . I'll post some new progress update if things don't move faster enough . Thanks for asking BTW! EDIT: Maybe Hexen II would have been a VERY different thing if Romero had done Hecatomb with it, I really didn't liked the final Hexen II game, it's not very well done, it has some nice things too, but it's not enough to make it good IMO.

Hexen II had some breathtaking architecture for its time but the rest was pretty crappy.

I liked the maps a lot , I always wanted to see 3d architecture of castles and the like, but the gameplay was pretty screwed up, the player movement was jerky and the load times, even in our days are a great pain in the back .

I liked the idea of the Paladin-Crusader difference, but overall I have to admit I didn't dislike that game as much as some other ppl on this board. I know the four horsemen were cheesy as hell, and the plot sucked balls, but it was still playable for me though. Then again I just started playing it a 2nd time 'round so I'm getting back into it. No doubt Hecatomb woulda been a masterpiece.
