Doom Builder - map maker

Just got accross this AWESOME map maker for the Doom Engine, called Doom Builder. It seems to be a relatively new program, but as far as I can tell, it's much supperior to any program I've ever tried to date (the one I got deeper was WadAuhtor), not only in design, but in functinality and has a very,very good and informative manual, thought for the (real) beginner (and not those manuals where you can tell the guy is bored of saying the same old things, forgetting that for some guys, that information is not only new, but also hard to understand). Do you guys know this one? I recommend everybody curious in knowing how to map for Doom engine games (such as Heretic or Hexen) to try this one out - the best thing is that it's Freeware, unlike WadAuthor, and has great support. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.codeimp.com/builder_info.php">http://www.codeimp.com/builder_info.php</a><!-- m -->?

I use it already (since April), it's rather popular with the doomworld, newdoom, zdaemon and zdoom communities <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> Loving it, easier than DeepSEA and Wadauthor by far, and I don't even map. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D -->

Then why the heck do you use it for, my friend? <!-- s:?: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_question.gif" alt=":?:" title="Question" /><!-- s:?: --> <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->

Now seriously, it's nice to know it's making waves, because it's very hard to find quaility work made by people who really cares about the users, and completely free for the community. <!-- s:wink: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=":wink:" title="Wink" /><!-- s:wink: -->

Man, and what about that incredible 3d edit feature? It's the GREATEST concept tool for map making out there: you can set those intricated surfaces a texture at the click of the mouse, just navigate the level and click on the surfaces to assign a texture you want, real-time <!-- s8) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="8)" title="Cool" /><!-- s8) --> . And that manual alignement is just genious: you can easily align textures just by pointing the crosshair to it and using the cursor keys (moving the texture at one pixel rates on the x and y axis). No more more of that vicious calculations and abstract thinking: welcome computer to do everything for me and spare my soft brain of any hard work! <!-- s;) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_wink.gif" alt=";)" title="Wink" /><!-- s;) --> This program is great man. Cheapy: does Zdoom works with Hexen too? How can I check that map in game?

Zdoom works in Shareware doom, doom, Doom, Doom2, Final Doom, Heretic, Hereitc: Shadows, Heretic:Shareware, Hexen, Hexen: Deathkings, Strife and the Strife demo. <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> To run the map, just simply drag n' drop my wad into zdoom.exe (2.0.63 recommended at least, or just grab 2.0.94 with a doom2.wad iwad in there.

I also like it more than WadAuthor because it's free and has support for almost all the good known Doom ports around (but it's missing Vavoom support), it's easier to use and as Mago says it has really good support.

[quote="Firebrand":j2nvkw2u](but it's missing Vavoom support) Easy, just write up a cfg file for it then containing the new stuff <!-- s:D --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s:D --> (Holy crap, post 8472)

BTW Cheapy, any news on the Slope function for DB? If the author manages to make it work like the manual floor and ceiling height adjustment, this program will be PERFECT! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

In #gargoyle chan right now:

<Cheapy> zzt-x, how were you able to make slopes in doom builder i.e. race track?
* Cheapy shakes ZZT-X like a jibber-jabber(tm)
<ZZT-X> Oh, um how?
<ZZT-X> Lemme see
<ZZT-X> Getting distracted by WWF WM Arcade, here, heh heh
<Cheapy> the commentary rules
<Cheapy> "THAT GUY IS A CHEATER!"
<ZZT-X> A lot of it was cut in the Genesis version, methinks
<ZZT-X> And the sound doesn't work for me in the DOS version. :/
<ZZT-X> Well, lemme see...
* ChanServ gives channel operator status to duckylety
<ZZT-X> Make a new level, ZDoom, (Doom in Hexen format)
<Cheapy> just get to the slopes >_<
<Cheapy> :p
<ZZT-X> Dude, I haven't done this in forevah, gimme a minute.
<Cheapy> OK OK SIR
<ZZT-X> Ok,it has something to do with linedef action 181...
<ZZT-X> Ok, you apply a linedef with action 181; then you need to tell it which sector tag to apply to...
<Cheapy> ok to complicated >_<
<ZZT-X> Yeah, it is.
<ZZT-X> Bitchin', just whipped a two-sector room with slopes in like, 30 seconds.
<ZZT-X> Still got it. :P
And there you have it, hahahaha. Would be AWESOME if slopes could be adjusted Build style in it's 3D mode, i.e. point a sector and hit the brackets, etc. It would also be awesome if DB supported thingID's greater than 32767 in it's list window so I can work on the amulets.cfg for it because having higher thingID's get forced down to 32767, preventing me from placing material based objects i.e. weapons and armor for the game Amulets & Armor <!-- s:( --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /><!-- s:( -->
