Hey, I just completed Strife and I must say I enjoyed it quite a bit.I'd just thought I'd ask who else here has completed Strife or at least played it?

I've not only played it completely through half a dozen times or more, I'm actually the only one I know who had too much time on his hands and was crazy enough to finish the game on nightmare skill, even though the developers themselves said it's impossible. Well it *is* nearly impossible, as all machines get up from being dead after 8 seconds (at least organic foes don't which makes the first third of the game fairly easy). If you've fought those big badass flying monster-machines in the last couple of maps which can take a lot of punishment, well imagine you barely killed one in maybe 30 secs, you run around the room a bit, killing a couple of acolytes or templars and before you know the big bully is up and running again... but I can testify that nightmare is doable on Strife, you just need good strategies, good reflexes/aim and some patience. Also, you should use the 1.3 (or similar, at any rate the highest official) patch which allows you to save your game to more than one slot, because you might quickly find yourself in a situation where you have to go back to an earlier save game and use a completely different strategy. Yes it matters what weapon you use when and how you juggle your ammo, and even when and what kind of medpacks you buy with the money you got. But if you like a challenge, it's definitely one.

Did they ever have plans for a sequel? BTW:I also completed the game on both endings, I did it today on the good ending.

Just for the record, there are three endings in Strife, not two. And no, there were no plans for a sequel because the original game completely failed, it came out too late and from an unknown publisher etc etc.

Is either Velocity.Inc or Rogue.Ent still alive?

I don't think that they still live, but I could be wrong.

If I remember correctly Velocity In c did publish some racing game afterwards and rogue made a mappack for Quake, but both failed completly, so both disappeared off the scene

Actually they (Rogue) last created Alice in 2000. They also created Quake 2 Mission Pack 2. Velocity simply disappeared after Strife or so. and at some point, it died or maybe because american mcgee's private studio, I don't know. They were supposed to be making some warped up American McGee's Oz! He's doing Bad Day LA now (which looks to be fun) As for strife i've completed that in '97 however I keep getting stuck in the sewers whenever I play it now

Strife is the best game ever made for computer. Ever. Second to Zelda 64.

Wow. I disagree, but you shouldn't care. It is a good game anyway.

No way! It has the best environments of any early 3d game along with the ability to be played over and over again. I guess it's not for everyone but I don't think I'll ever get rid of that game.

Yeah, it was a great game, if not the greatest (Heretic and Hexen are taking that crown). One thing that killed it though was the awful graphics, even compared to DOOM. And coming out after Hexen, it was very visible it's not the engine limitations. The voice acting is one of the greatest I've ever heard though, considering that it was all done by only 2 (!) dudes (except for Blackbird's voice). Some of that voice acting made me click guards a dozen times every time I saw them, to listen to that amazing talent again and again.

What if we make our RPG Trilogy better?

I think Strife is a very interesting example of what you can do if you have enough ideas and talent, the Doom engine is very limited in it's own, but these guys really implemented interesting additions to it and used very clever tricks to make a conversation system, the story it's not that good (I would have polished some details myself, heh!) and the game graphics are poor, also, if you browse through the voice wad you'll find a lot of voices that aren't used in the game, which means that maybe a lot of ideas got out during development or that they rushed it to make a release, I think that a bit more polishing of the game would have been enough to make it even better IMO.
