*GASP!* Was the music "chartr' intended for shadow woo

I was just exporting midis in Hexen using XWE when I ran across the hidden track 'chartr' once more. Usually I don't regard this with much consideration, but this time I noticed the midi was wedged between 'levelr' and 'swampr'. Giving this some thought, It might have been for a level that came after Bright Crucible and before Darkmere. Which level comes to mind here? Not only that but there is another quite obvious piece of evidence that the song is repeated in effluvium later in the game, which is quite unique because that makes it the only repeated song in the whole game!!! (other than swampr in the opening credits and hallr during ethereal travel, heh.) So did one of the staff just accidently type cryptr in the sndinfo where they meant to type chartr? Or did they just decide they didn't like the song? Very odd! I went and changed my sndinfo to play that hidden track on shadow wood for myself. don't worry about me I have backups of the original wad if it blows up in my face Now ensue a fullfledged and heated discussion of the hexen soundtrack! Ahaha!

The only unused music I know of is chap2r, which is a remix of simonr. I don't know why they didn't use it. I rather liked that one.

I thought Levelr was the only unused one. Then again it's been a while since I last browsed the MUS lumps.

The unused ones are Chartr and Chap_2r. Levelr is the music played in Bright Crucible, and the music used in Dark Crucible is a remix of it. Chap_2r is a remix of the guardian of ice, anf Chartr is... well... it's hard ti describe, it's something completely different from the rest of the music, something that seems like it would be for an outside level like sacred grove and the orchard of lamentations, it sounds similar to those two kinda. Sometimes when you open Deepsea this midi might be played at the title screen.

Interesting perception there Paganraven. What you stated could very well be possible.

After thinking about what Chap_2R could;ve possibly been used for I'm thinking that maybe they originally intended to have 4 chapels in the Heirisiarch's seminary instead of 3 Because: Chap_1R is used for Dragon Chapel Chap_3R is used for Griffin chapel Chap_4R is used for Deathwind Chapel Interestingly the music used for Wolf Chapel is SecretR I'd also like to point out that the music tracks for the Castle of Grief are listed before those in th Heirisiarch's seminary. You guys can thank me for any of PaganRaven's said arguments occur

Wow, great thoughts! Maybe there's actually a level missing that was never made and it could be like, the DEVIL'S PORTALS omg1 It would branch off from the seminary and be the central hub for all those 'chapels' and it would use Chap_1r for music and then Dragon Chapel = Chap_2r Griffin Chapel = Chap_3r Wolf Chapel = Chap_4r Deathwing Chapel = Secretr and then when you beat them all you can go back to the semilnary to kill the heresiarch! omg! Lets brainstorm! =)

Never thought that we could learn so much from the hexen soundtrack Eh\:D/ If what you said is true then they probably had to cut it due to time constraints or they disliked the idea. Also it seems that Griffin Chapel was the only one of 'em that keep its music track during the shuffle. Chap1_R was given to Dragon chapel likely since they liked the track and wanted to hear it in game, left Chap2_R unused and switched music tracks between Wolf and Deathwind chapel since they felt that fit the levels better.

I'm no linguistic expert, but the exporession "olay" you mentioned (ol? in current portuguese) is a trademark of bull-fight (yes that sick "sport" some consider to be a form of art) and is most probably orginally from spanish. In Brazil where spanish influence is also high, it's actually used today mainly in football, when payers do something to humiliate or suprass a opponent (the same as in spanish and portuguese bull-fights). Bull-fights, dog fights, rooster, bears... No other animal could possibly be as cruel as we are.

I just beat the game with a new sndinfo wad. The difference was shadow wood had cryptr, Dragon Chapel had Chap_2r, Griffin Chapel had Chap_3r, Wolf chapel had Chap_4r, and Deathwind Chapel had Chap_1r. I say, the songs actually go quite good with the levels' environment, even when you're used to the official arrangement. I've also noticed in the past that there is a remix of the Wasteland music (desolate garden) and an extra guardian of ice remix (Castle of Grief). Back when I was younger I thought castle of grief had the 'official' guardian of ice remix before I discovered chap_2r. I think someone's gonna hafta make a darkmere and a cave of circe remixes just to be fair to them. I'll play around with anvilstudio maybe =)
